From A to Z 2012 'P'

From A to Z in 2012

Great things come from small beginnings. This poem “Poet To The Poor” became the theme poem for a book bearing that title. It basically states my opinion of art and how art is hijacked nefariously for the practice of manipulation and control.

I don’t blame the people who work for the advertising companies for selling out. After all, we all gotta eat. But there is a fine line somewhere out there where advertising becomes propaganda, where the goal of the artwork is no longer to get a person to buy some product but rather to make them think in a certain way.

The news on the television is propaganda. There is always some human interest story involving some cut animal. If they talk about the wars the most common story is about the soldier coming home to surprise his child.

In this poem, I embrace the poor, the discarded, the downtrodden, the neglected. When we spend billions on war and the same people who fought those wars are homeless and hungry on the street, well we need a revolution.

Poet to the Poor

by John Kaniecki

Who will be the poet to the poor
For the abused, used, confused
Who aren't even aware
They have a hope and a prayer
Who will be the poet to the poor
Rich man's writer is but a whore
Producing propaganda for war
Or marketing merchandise to sell more
Who will be the poet to the poor

It's what these words are for

Please investigate, purchase, and then read my books of poetry.
