If I Should Fall Before You

If I Should Fall Before You

by John Kaniecki

If I should fall before you

Know I fought to the end

If I should fall before you

Know that I was your friend

Rivers flow endlessly

Never filling the sea

Rivers flow endlessly

Into the misty gray fog of eternity

Some say there is a land beyond the great expanse

Where we shall sing and dance

Some say there is a land beyond the great expanse

I for one am willing to take that chance

If I should fall before you

I will welcome you in

If I should fall before you

Take comfort

We shall meet again

Poetry Audition

From “Seven Rings Of Saturn.” This is poetry with an edge. A pit bull with razor-sharp teeth and bark to match.

Poetry Audition

Present to me your worse works

Your three-legged dogs

Chained to a rusted Subaru

In an otherwise vacant junkyard

Make sure it is a rainy day

Full of golf ball-sized hail

Smashing car windshields

With as little care as

A prostitute saying yes

Give me images trite

Like electric rainbows

Or sunbeams from heaven

Boy meets girl, girl meets boy

Girl is strict neo-con feminist

Boy is homosexual flaming flamingo pink

Married to make parents happy

Lived happily ever after

With fourteen children

Who says you can't change?

Why wouldn't I present my worst work?

My tear-stained Big Mac wrappers

With scribble jotted by a straw

Using ketchup as ink

Best poem I ever wrote

Until my dog licked it up

Please don't rhyme that takes talent

Sonnets have been slain

The Knight of Free Verse

Bashed it's skull with his mace

So hard that the head was decapitated

It rolled down blueberry hill

To the witches' coven

As the head bounced

Plopping into the stew of evil brew

Aunt Agnes dressed in black

Softly remarks

"Last time I'll ever drink this stuff"

As you guessed

A dog howls at the moon

Blighted The World

Another one written for the wonderful

Dave Flagman

Blighted The World

You spent days in the maze going all ways

Hyped you typed the words to the latest craze

What a pretender you can never surrender

Through the door the Minotaur the game-ender

Scorned by your girl

So you blighted the world

The whore of the Minotaur

So you blighted the world

The rat runs from the cat chases the cheese

When you are homeless you do as you please

You served your time and you did no crime

Except for obeying orders and marching in line

Scorned by your girl

So you blighted the world

The whore of the Minotaur

So you blighted the world

They are gentrifying Harlem way uptown

The orders are given from the banks on down

While the disheveled veteran sleeps on a grate

Mass production it’s hard to function with hate

LSD slips in his juice

He is free fabulously loose

He chases the dragon today

Tomorrow is the time to pay

Tomorrow and what more

Enter the Minotaur

Scorned by your girl

So you blighted the world

The whore of the Minotaur

So you blighted the world

In that fatal moment when insanity becomes real

You cannot repent or even see the total deal

And with open eyes you realize Babylon

With trembling slips time slips and all is gone

Scorned by your girl

So you blighted the world

The whore of the Minotaur

So you blighted the world
