Biztopia

Biztopia

By John Kaniecki

Mister Grumblecock was a traveling salesman

A dinosaur in this virtual age of click and buy

But he is an element in the overall Master Plan

A first hand witness who can effectively lie

All the while keeping a smile upon his face

Mister Grumblecock is a man of luxury

Who will not settle for the common whore

While drowning himself with martinis into obscurity

His sole desire is more, more and of course more

Like a false gospel with promises void of grace

Biztopian experts desire an asphalt domain

A world where digits on a computer are supreme

“It is good for business” no reason to explain

Efficiency and compliance the ultimate dream

Who cares if Mother Earth has a desecrated face?

Mister Grumblecock is experienced in the deal

Weapons, narcotics, sex slaves, it’s all the same

At the end of the day nothing is truly real

Everybody is a piece in a gigantic chess game

What is wrong with keeping the poor in their place?

Mister Grumblecock sits riding in a jet plane

Lusting after the stewardess desiring a tryst

He is a fine businessman, what more to explain?

Still in his mind a lingering doubt does persist

Exactly why is he running so hard in this race?

Mister Grumblecock died of a heart attack

Not a single person cared enough to mourn

In this world of life we can never go back

It’s a one way street from the day we’re born

Mister Grumblecock always the Jack never the ace

A Poem of the Year

 A Poem of the Year

by John Kaniecki

My words are an April shower

A flash of subtle power

A sudden surge not to forget

Leaving you wet

My stanza's are the sun's glory

Radiating rich in story

Eternal as the day

So I say

My rhyme is a blizzard's snow

A cruel cold chill

Never letting go

Still

The beauty of the white wintery dream

Crystal gleam

My poems are autumn's leaves

For one who believes

Red, yellow, brown

Nature's splendid crown

At my best

The Lord's harvest

Blue Trombones

 Blue Trombones

by John Kaniecki

Blue trombones

Set

      The

             Beat

Genocide to gentrification

Haunting taunting names

Manalapan

Pequannock

Bert's Sushi Restaurant

Five star delight

On Malcolm X Boulevard

Apollo was a hoax

And God

Well

I gaze upon His sorrowful face

As the pristinely uniformed corporal

Plays taps

As a marching band so grand

Carefully, cautiously side steps

The unconscious husk

Of the deluded mercenary

Long forgotten

Touted once as a local hero

Picture in the local paper

Who paid the ultimate sacrifice

As poverty licks

Like Jack Frost's dog

Bitterly count the cost

One,

        Two,

                 Three

As mournful widows dressed in black

Salute flags of agony

Wailing in bitter moans

Competing

With blind philosophers

Smoking bones

Rat-tat tapping to the tones

Sad sympathetic synchronized notes

Blue trombones

Get Up And Live

 Get Up And Live

Wake up get up the sun is rising in the eastern skies

Time you understand the message and open up your eyes

They’ve muddied the rivers and they polluted the skies

In the caverns of your mind so they planted their lies

Get up and live you only get one chance

Get up and live ask your sweetheart to dance

Get up and live life is a gift of grace

Get up and live make the world a better place

We are on a journey we’re the people of one nation

In service to your brethren is the glory of salvation

So you were born in poverty and baptized in sorrow

That was yesterday my friend you still got tomorrow

Get up and live you only get one chance

Get up and live ask your sweetheart to dance

Get up and live life is a gift of grace

Get up and live make the world a better place

Some men they were born to sing the blues

And some men they walk the Earth with no shoes

And some men live in palaces grand

But all men are equal do you understand?

For God He is the creator of us all

And in His sight there is no great or small

The philosophy of equality is not a radical notion

Hand in hand sharing all we set the future in motion

You are a stone in God’s temple a wonderful thing

You have reasons to rejoice you have reasons to sing

Get up and live you only get one chance

Get up and live ask your sweetheart to dance

Get up and live life is a gift of grace

Get up and live make the world a better place

Won’t you walk with me as I go down the narrow and straight?

I promise you love I have forsaken the ways of hate

Look in the mirror my friend tell me what do you see

I see the secret in your eyes I see humanity

Get up and live you only get one chance

Get up and live ask your sweetheart to dance

Get up and live life is a gift of grace

Get up and live make the world a better place

I sung the blues

 I Sung the Blues

Momma was a Baptist holy as can be

Papa was a drunk loved his whiskey

How they’d fight scream and shout

Couldn’t stand it just one way out

I sung the blues

It came from my heart

I sung the blues

Surviving was an art

Momma had good news

Papa had his views

And me

I sung the blues

Well daddy drifted in and out

Momma did her best I had no doubt

Scrubbing floors and cooking meals

I learned real young how hunger feels

I sung the blues

It came from the soul

I sung the blues

Music took control

Momma worked like hell

Papa never did well

And me
I sung the blues

Church was packed on my saddest day

Good Lord Jesus took my momma away

They say God He’s full of Love so kind

Why’d he take momma and leave me behind

I sung the blues

Louder than the choir

I sung the blues

I was a blazing fire

Momma went to glory

Poppa was out of the story

And me

I sung the blues

So here I am close your eyes to see

Music is a healer come to set you free

In my voice, I rejoice, it’s my choice

You can’t touch my song and make it wrong

Life ain’t easy we all pay our dues

I got sorrow to borrow I sing the blues

I sing the blues

On the radio

I sing the blues

On the t.v. show

Momma I miss

Papa thanks for this

Cause of you

I sung the blues

Bells and Whistles, Thorns and Thistles

The Seven O’ Five Train Is Running Late

Ding, Ding, Ding, Hear the Bells ring

See the train, clear and plain

Life’s insane

Ding, Ding, Ding, Hear the Bells ring

Bars descend, Blocking tracks

Bars descend, Traffic held back

Woooooooooooooooohh!!! Goes the whistle

Woooooooooooooooohh!!! Goes the whistle

Hear it blow,

So everyone will know, the train comes near

So everyone will know, deep dark fear

Feel the ground, Rumble and Shake

A loud deafening sound, Hard to take

Silence shattered, Birds have scattered

We have defiled, everything that mattered

The seven o’ five, A little behind

It’s seven fifteen

                 The passengers

ARE OUT OF THEIR MIND

They’re getting mean,

TEN MINUTES LATE!!

Hurry, hurry, worry, worry

Can’t debate

Deadlines to make, Punch in the clock

Rules to break, A world in a lock

Governed by Mammon

A spiritual famine

Cold and cruel

M a n y   t h e  f o o l

And thus begins an epic tale of Edgar the banker and his exploits focused on the train he uses first to commute to work and then to 'escape.'

ALL ABOARD THE TRAIN!!! Commuting has never been this exciting. Edgar, the banker, goes on a philosophical journey and a literal one. A well-to-do businessman from the suburbs commuting to the megalopolis of Babylon. But surely, there is more to life than the golden calf he bows down to. Perhaps it is ill-begotten to use people unscrupulously to maximize profits. But what does Edgar care, after all, "I got mine!" Sadly, or perhaps happily, Edgar is on a grand exploration. This pilgrimage is faithfully recorded in poetic grandeur. Terrific poetry here tantalizing the ear. Images burst like supernovas. Unforgettable characters. So go buy that one-way ticket and let's travel by the old humming steel rail. Kick back in your seat and enjoy the passing scenery. Bells and Whistles, Thorns and Thistles poetry for the coming new age!

The Curse

 The Curse

By John Kaniecki

I am an angel afraid to fly

I am a mortal scared to die

I am the Creator in fear of creation

I am a sinner scorning salvation

Oh Lord hear my lonesome cry

Oh see my pitiful state

Unfathomable mysteries to contemplate

Try as I might try

I cannot soothe my soul

Or be whole

the forest

at my forest camp

he collapses on the mattress

in my tent

and is asleep in moments

i pack my bag

and leave him a note

saying he can have the tent

and everything in it

say a prayer for him

and the other strugglers

around here

light some incense

and put it at my shrine

to Lord Ganesh

feed peanuts to the monkeys

my friends for a few months

and walk back through the forest

into the village

and across the bridge

over the river Ganges

towards Rishikesh

to get a bus to New Delhi

i stop on the bridge

put my bag down

look out to the Himalayas

blurred by my weary tears

think about going back

to the forest

say the things i never said

but i don’t

i pick up my bag

continue across the bridge

smiling

again free

with me  .

Forgive me

Forgive me

if I was absent,

forgive me

if I was silent,

forgive me

if I was violent,

I was trying

to heal on my own,

I was trying to

to cool my mind,

I was trying to live,

I chose a complicated

journey

at this point

everything hurts,

even my soul,

but I all ever

wanted was to rest.

...

Fall leaf

Like this

beautiful fall leaf,

I choose to be transformed

and I accept to be

taken by the wind

of fate.

...

What are we?

We are rational,

We are emotional,

We are builders,

We are genius,

We are destroyers,

We want it all,

We struggle,

We suffer,

We are victims of desire,

But each day

We act and feel less human

Because we are told

To not get emotional,

To not cry,

To not love,

To chase fortune,

To chase fame,

To have more,

To look in a certain way,

To behave in a certain way,

And what is left?

Someone

Who looks like

A human

But is not one.

Story Of The Scarecrow

Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Read Again

Behind the light lurks the shadows and thus the terror of the scarecrow. Anne McFry is on a bus headed to New York City, her ambition to be a musical superstar. But not only is she chasing her dreams, but she is fleeing her nightmares. Anne is a member of a satanic cult, a virtual slave of darkness. She witnessed the murder of Wilbur Feris. Her hands had been bloodied as she assisted the murderers in disposing of the body. But that was yesterday, and tomorrow is the Mecca of show business New York City. But there is the scarecrow, here, there, and everywhere. Why is the scarecrow dominating the thoughts and dreams of Anne? What is the evil lurking in the hideous symbol? This is a tale of horror and dreams deferred. Craftily composed with poetic flair saturated with suspense, complete with a shocking, unexpected ending.

Canto 10

 Canto 10

From the window I saw an eagle fly

Soaring in the heaven’s azure blue sky

Said my friend with pipe in his withered hand

The universe’s mysteries I do understand

My gaze lowered to view his wrinkled face

If I wasn’t high I would leave this place

But the Earth pipe he passed to me

And I inhaled then I did disagree

To admit omnipotence is a fatal sin

Humility is the place to begin

For knowledge alone solves no mystery at all

True understanding is answering God’s call

Then the wind whipped and sang a moan

And I understood, yes I alone

I looked upon the fool with great pity

How futile is the chase to infinity

Counting one by one is how they go

Me I simply divide by zero

It’s nothing special and nothing at all

True understanding is answering God’s call

The wine in my glass was once full to me

But long ago I have made the vessel empty

My friend was stoned and stoned I should be

For to some being high is heresy

Train Wreck

 Train Wreck

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

Running down the line looking so fine

A hell of a train called make it all mine

Iron and steel it’s a fire of fury

Get off of the tracks it’s in a hurry

A world away it didn’t seem true

I fell in love like young girls always do

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck a world of pain

A train wreck life’s insane

A train wreck coming in vain

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck and it’s coming again

Mother picked my man before I was born

Between custom and Love I was torn

Outcast I rode the plains with Crazy Horse

The elders would not let me divorce

We were free as the sky never knowing

It all would end with a whistle blowing

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck a world of pain

A train wreck life’s insane

A train wreck coming in vain

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck and it’s coming again

Liquor lies and soldiers ready to fight

So much for us making love all night

I kissed him hard as we said goodbye

I knew we were through I broke down to cry

Our hope was just to live our own way

Before the iron dragon had its day

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck a world of pain

A train wreck life’s insane

A train wreck coming in vain

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck and it’s coming again

Like the Buffalo we are no more

We won the battle but lost the war

Like my people I am of the past

Love stories have no choice but to last

At six every morn the train rolls by

When something is born something must die

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck a world of pain

A train wreck life’s insane

A train wreck coming in vain

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck and it’s coming again

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

I ride the plains you can still hear my cry

When something is born something must die

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

In Your Father’s Arms (Remembering Jason Owens)

In Your Father’s Arms (Remembering Jason  Owens)

By John Kaniecki

Jason Owens what have they done?

On that lonesome wicked day

Shot you down with their gun

Didn’t even let you pray

To say your final tearful goodbye
To your dad at home in the sky

Jason Owens what have they done?

My poet’s pen is cold and numb

They can do you no more harm

You are safe and secure

In your Father’s arms

Jason Owens, Mother Earth welcomes you

Another tear

Another smear

On the red, white and blue

The headlines I demand
“MARSHALS MURDER MOURNING MAN’

Jason Owens what have they done?

Your life over just as it begun

Never to see Justin grow old

Your grandchildren you won’t hold

I will hold fast to this one charm

You are safe and secure

In your Father’s arms

Listen to what the Good Book says

The Sword cuts both ways

Jesus will judge those wicked cowards

But let our cry be heard

Hear my sacred vow

WE WANT JUSTICE NOW!

Jason Owens what have they done?

Your crimson blood screams

They called your name

And then let the bullets fly

Oh, to hear your anguished mother’s cry

And the authorities told a grand lie

With no cameras to witness the facts

Wednesday, August 24th, 2022, a day forever black

Jason Owens what have they done?

Another name, another shame, on an endless list

Evil shall persist until we resist

I hear the rustling of the bones of Mother Jones

A nation collectively groans

I point the finger of blame on the institution

With revolution the solution

Blow the horn! Ring the bell!

This wicked tale we must tell

Jason Owens, I hope you died not in vain

But that is up to the living

We that seek justice must sound the alarm

Rest Jason Owens a chapter is complete

But even in death there is no defeat

You are safe and secure

In your Father’s arms

Allen’s Song

 Allen’s Song

Aces can be high aces can be low

Life is hard when you just don’t know

There’s so much more than keeping score

I’ve told you many times before

You always played the game to win

And that Allen was your sin

You gotta die before you begin

And here I go blowing like the wind

I was always afraid my mind paranoid

Before I could fly I was destroyed

Couldn’t let go couldn’t hold on

But now yesterday is gone

You always played the game to win

And that Allen was your sin

You gotta die before you begin

And here I go blowing like the wind

Two losers with a dream that was you and I

Now you sell drugs that don’t make you high

Once we searched for the reason why

I found the Truth and you found a lie

You always played the game to win

And that Allen was your sin

You gotta die before you begin

And here I go blowing like the wind

Wine woman and song

Love is what’s strong

Take your money take your gold

Cause brother you got sold

When you wake up in your father’s place

You look in the mirror it ain’t your face

When you become the unknown stranger

Remember I warned you of the danger

You always played the game to win

And that Allen was your sin

You gotta die before you begin

And here I go blowing like the wind
