A Panther’s Dream

A Panther’s Dream

Dream, dream, dream

Dream as much as you can

One day you will grow

To be a woman or man

Don’t let the darkness destroy

The Love of life and your sweet joy

There are those of us who wish you glory

That is the Black Panther story

Nothing good comes without a fight

Just like doing wrong is never right

When we were young we fought like hell

So when you were young life would be well

You too have your cross to bear and work to do

Know our thoughts and prayers are with you

It is not children who dream alone

We dream also, those who have grown

Yet there is something about dreams really strange

The people are different but the dreams don’t change

To live a good life and to be all you can

Seems like happiness is in everybody’s plan

Child when life hits your hard and you just gotta scream

Dream, dream, dream

Dream as much as you can

Cause fighting for your dreams

Makes you a woman or a man

Dream, dream, dream

Dream

POLISHED FRAGMENTS

Peace

Peace

There is a dream

That we share

In lofty hopes

And solemn prayer

Peace

Peace I say

To come our way

Peace for all

Great and small

We awake

In the rumble of the bomb

With the scent of napalm

On our breath

Prophesying death

War is a whore

With no give and all take

Missiles fly

Children cry

Civilians die

And we ask why

While the answer given

Is always a lie

But there is no surrender

Or forsaking the ideal

In the future

Peace will be real

We shall turn

When we learn

The lesson of Love

Radical Jeff

Radical Jeff

Radio is playing some long-forgotten song

John Fogarty splaining how the world went wrong

Radical Jeff is driving he’s humming along

When your heart is true you are strong

Radical Jeff well he’s a radical

Full of hope a little cynical

We’re all hoping on a miracle

Radical Jeff well he’s a radical

Well there are too many things we could protest

If you believe in love you just want the best

No more endless war and that means genocide

Sorry Uncle Sam we don’t like pilgrim pride

Radical Jeff well he’s a radical

Full of hope a little cynical

We’re all hoping on a miracle

Radical Jeff well he’s a radical

By God’s grace go punch a Nazi in the face

Let’s fix Earth before we ruin outer space

Peace love and understanding for the human race

And radical Jeff is setting things in their place

Radical Jeff well he’s a radical

Full of hope a little cynical

We’re all hoping on a miracle

Radical Jeff well he’s a radical

Radical Jeff is throwing the dice he’s playing the game

Radical Jeff I wish he had a better rhyming name

Call him an old hippie call him whatever you will

Jesus said a lot more than Thou Shall Not Kill

On the corner tonight the weather was bitter cold

All of the time day by day we’re growing old

We have but one wish in this wicked world of sin

To leave better than we got to our children

Radical Jeff well he’s a radical

Full of hope a little cynical

We’re all hoping on a miracle

Radical Jeff well he’s a radical

Sweet Salvation

Sweet Salvation

Sin

The devil’s deuces in my hand

I could not understand

Or begin to comprehend

Lost in a manic maze without end

In a starless moonless night

Full of fright and haze

Love

A sweet hello

A world I didn’t know

A light beyond the mist

Something I could never dream to exist

I heard the Word

And in my heart stirred

A fainty ray of light

I was lost in sin most vile

Life a pointless vain trial

Barely able to fake a smile

I was wondering if there was something more

If somehow I had missed the door

Then I heard the gospel story

Of Jesus, God and glory

How on the cross of Calvary

He paid the price for me

Faith commeth by hearing and hearing by the Word of God

God be true and every man a lair

Grace pricked my heart

I began a quest

A new start

I could not rest

Until I made things right

With the Lord of Light

I learned the gospel lesson

Accepted it without question

And in baptism buried in the blood deep

The good Lord my soul to keep

Thanx to sweet salvation

My destination heaven above

What great love

Born again!

Thank God for saving me from sin

Every Generation Got a Fire

Every Generation Got a Fire

Sitting singing outside of kings

Skies thundering, I’m wondering

What the weather brings

Playing songs back from sixty two

Sometimes gray sometimes blue

Every generation got a fire

See the system is a liar

Stand up brave stand up bold

Proclaim the truth it must be told

Vietnam is from a history book

I stop to take another look

Iraq and Afghanistan

Going to kill the yellow man

I can only see through my eyes

Seems to me it’s the same old lies

Every generation got a fire

See the system is a liar

Stand up brave stand up bold

Proclaim the truth it must be told

I swore I’d never ever be

Cold and heartless in agony

The songs or wrongs they change

But one thing is so strange

A common theme a common dream

Of the power of Love to redeem

Every generation got a fire

See the system is a liar

Stand up brave stand up bold

Proclaim the truth it must be told

So I sit hoping it won’t rain

So I cry out it’s not in vain

The music, the music hear it explain

World’s gone crazy but the song is sane

Gather round raise your voices in a choir

Every generation got a fire

Every generation got a fire

See the system is a liar

Stand up brave stand up bold

Proclaim the truth it must be told

One For the Poets

One For the Poets

Only poets read poetry

Polite friends purchase

Books to be forgotten

Destined to be donated

Or sold at garage sales

For twenty five cents

But I am typing these words

Letter by letter

In the context of the absurd

Hoping one day to be heard

I visited the book store

Poetry had three cases

One dedicated to Shakespeare

From Macbeth to King Leer

And all the others throughout history

Had two

So there is something to be said

For iambic pentameter

Containing a meaningful message

With thrilling metaphor

Us poets are vain

The best of us insane

For despite our obscurity

A kernel of corn hidden in Iowa

We will change the world!

A Rap for a Real Revolutionary

A Rap for a Real Revolutionary

Bad news she softly said

Chairman Fred is dead

What was his crime?

What did he do wrong?

Being ahead of his time

And fighting too strong

The wind blows harsh in Chicago

Wailing woe

For the secrets it does know

We just wanted to be free

And live decently

She says between tears

As she hangs low her head

This is the worst of our fears

Chairman Fred is dead

Revolutionaries in truth cannot die

The question will persist

Why?

I insist

That we carry on

Though like so many others

Chairman Fred is gone

I salute you sisters, I salute you brothers

Let us not give up the fight

For one day darkness will be vanquished by light

That is the hope that is the dream

That is the motive supreme

Countless sorrows my heart has bled

Our martyrs’ blood like rivers flow

Oceans of agony is the pain we know

Chairman Fred is dead

We too must be willing to give our lives

That is how the struggle survives

Hey Tamron

Hey Tamron

By John Kaniecki

Hey there sweet baby girl

Precious black pearl

Woman of the world

Elegant lady of style

Give me a precious smile

Let’s talk and laugh a while

Blow the silver trumpets

Let the sacred flag be unfurled

Our banner of freedom flapping in the breeze

Love will put your mind at ease

For our Father

The maker of our soul

Keeps complete control

Understand

He holds the universe in His hand

Can you comprehend

He calls you friend

So in word and deed

Be a friend indeed

Jesus went to the cross

So that not one would be lost

Day after day after day

Trust and obey

No matter how grim things become

God’s will shall be done!

I was Eve the mother of creation

I was the first nation

In almost forgotten days of old

My people discovered secrets untold

I was a Pharoah with a grand pyramid as a grave

I was a humble galley slave

I marched with Hannibal to Rome

I was a wiseman my name now unknown

I was Cleopatra on her golden throne

I was sent to toil in a harsh wicked land

I made a rebel stand

I had dignity in the face of hatred

I was sacred

I fought the good fight

I made a stand for what was right

I am the Creator’s delight

Tomorrow an angel of light

Black clouds drawing near

I refuse to give in to fear

I’ve been fighting all my life

I’m no stranger to strife

We’re still singing We Shall Overcome

For the work isn’t done

Until we are all free

And live decently

So let evil come and spit in my face

I shall conquer with Grace

Oh, wizards wicked and cruel

Who seek to conquer and rule

Don’t count me as a fool

Because I believe in the golden rule

Right is right

And wrong is wrong

I shall sing my song of delight

I am strong

You shall see

Hope gives me the victory

It is already won!

Tamron Hall, I hope you like my little song

For you see

I like my woman as my coffee

Hot, black and strong!

A Kid's Face

 A Kid's Face

by John Kaniecki

Kelly Thomas had a kid's face

Showed up at the wrong place

Kelly Thomas had a kid's mind

Society had left him behind

Schizophrenia is a harsh disease

But Kelly Thomas was at ease

Until the big man in blue

Said what he intended to do

Police wanted him to move

Police had something to prove

It was plain for all to see

Police brutality

Kelly Thomas had a kid's face

Angelic and pure

Kelly Thomas had a kid's face

But not any more

They say that this is a civilization of law

But America has a tragic flaw

Cause dogs in blue with authority

Have their own brutal reality

Beating a man with no worry

Crying as he's dying

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry

Gasping in desperate despair

That he can't get any air

Finally crying for his dad

They knew Kelly Thomas was crazy mad

But they didn't care at all

Then they lied about it all

Well Kelly Thomas had his day in court

And I am so sad to report

The jury said there was no wrong done

The jury said there was no wrong done

It's easy when it ain't your son

Kelly Thomas had a kid's face

Angelic in it's glow

Kelly Thomas had a kid's face

But now it ain't so
