A Trillion Ways

A Trillion Ways

Can you pick between rainbows and moonbeams

Between hot fantasy and sacred dreams

When the odds are high I know just to do

I take a moment and focus on you

There are a trillion ways they define eternity

I only have one love that’s what you mean to me

There are a trillion ways from here to infinity

I want to live all of my days just you and me

This crazy old Earth’s spinning round and round

On the train to glory that’s where we’re bound

Blow that holy whistle let church bells chime

Your heart sings sweet songs drenched in perfect rhyme

There are a trillion ways they define eternity

I only have one love that’s what you mean to me

There are a trillion ways from here to infinity

I want to live all of my days just you and me

Vultures circle the demons of doom growl

Satan like a lion is on the prowl

Run with me baby heaven’s our only chance

We’ll be heading out after the last dance

There are a trillion ways they define eternity

I only have one love that’s what you mean to me

There are a trillion ways from here to infinity

I want to live all of my days just you and me

The gypsy shuffled the cards I suspected something odd

She said I don’t believe in Zeus what’s the use of a god

The crystal ball told me all I peered into tomorrow

Never mind the fee she said softly you’ll pay in sorrow

Volcanoes blowing up the wind in pain

Forty days and forty nights of endless rain

On a canoe built for two we rode the waves

Together forever even beyond our graves

There are a trillion ways they define eternity

I only have one love that’s what you mean to me

There are a trillion ways from here to infinity

I want to live all of my days just you and me

Zoey Sunshine

Zoey Sunshine

Hi

Smile

This is me

Crazy and free

Simply divine

Zoey Sunshine

Like the glory in heaven high

I am a piece of art

There is music in my heart

Beating loud

Singing proud

I stand out in the crowd

Cause I got style

Smile

This is me

A wonderful beauty

Finer than fine

Little Black Box

Little Black Box

God grand creator of the universe

By whose hand the Earth’s form took

No matter how profound the verse

Could you be contained in a book?

Omnipotent infinite able to do all

To be in a block box ever so small

You’re able to make real the slightest whim

Would you make a home in my poem?

Black and white laws a system of rules

They quote the Bible as perfect fools

Twisting manipulative serving their own end

They mock your Spirit and call you friend

Crystal clear to Love it is to obey

Yet their love is but a word they say

In slavery bound by their sin and desire

They claim the truth but each is a liar

The little black box it sits on my table

Whatever your will it is then able

The little black box I put it on my shelf

I look inside only to find myself

A firefly captured by children in delight

They gaze at the magical mystical light

Your in the black box I have no doubt

Perhaps one day I will let you out

These words perhaps they depict your soul

To show you love yes that is my goal

In a little black box tiny as a star

In a little black box is where you are

Contrast, there is heaven there is hell

You’ll see the difference it is easy to tell

Love is the word written on my heart

In a little black box never to part

In a little black box kept secure

I wish it was something better something more

A little black box they do not understand

From deep within there comes the command

Listen my dear one and yes you’ll hear

But could you hear and not know fear

A little black box convenient in hand

I wonder if you’ll ever understand

Barcelona Blues

Barcelona Blues

The sin and pain

Of heroin and cocaine

In empty flats

Where rents aren’t paid

Deals are made

To immigrants poor

Looking for a score

With danger so near

Neighbors live in fear

Bad news

These Barcelona Blues

Addiction

It is a disease

One of many woes

Poverty intimately knows

Searching for solutions

Goes beyond institutions

We must view all

As part of the whole

And answer the call

Of heart and soul

Beautiful But Powerless

Beautiful But Powerless

She is a crystal dove

See her glitter

See her shine

Sweet is her Love

Angelically divine

Look

But never touch

Or call her mine

Gaze upon the beauty of her face

But God forbid

You should embrace

For she would shatter

Into an infinite number of fragments

You see in life

Some were meant

Only to be gazed upon

Like a falling snowflake

Melting

To live but one moment

And then be gone

Jupitar

Jupitar

To EXPERIENCE Jupitar

I promised you our first stop would be Jupitar.

Jupitar

I want to go to Jupitar
Jupitar
Do you think there’s war
On Jupitar, Jupitar
We could have a cosmic cruise
If we loose we loose

I want to go to Jupitar
Jupitar
Way up on a star
That’s where the good ones are
On Jupitar, Jupitar

Captain John and his merry band
Would sure like to lend a hand
On Jupitar
You can be a star
Dance up on the bar
We all know where we are
It’s Jupitar

Touch down landing
Are you understanding
We’re in heaven high
On Jupitar in the sky
If you search you’ll find
Jupitar is a state of mind

Let’s all go to Jupitar
Jupitar
Ain’t no hardship or war
On Jupitar, Jupitar
Let’s take that cosmic cruise
Ain’t no way we can loose

A Day @ The Poet's Cafe

 A Day @ The Poet's Cafe

by John Kaniecki

"WHAT DO YOU WANT!!??!!"
Rosie is far from nosy
Serving as waitress at the restaurant
Chewing Bazooka bubble gum with a smile
Her raw radiance
Tightly fitting finely filled uniform
Compensates for her lack of style
Her glossy red cheeks speak abundantly
Strawberry Blossom -  exactly
My eyes tip toe over the menu
"I'm not sure"
"I've never been here before"
"Perhaps an extended metaphor?"
Rosie smiles savage and cunning
Sultry, sexually stunning
"Take it from me"
"Try a simile"
"The taste is nice"
"At an excellent price"
Confounded by a vague reference
Like a ship lost upon the sea
"Oh my" I cry suddenly
It's the worst thing to say
At the Poet's Cafe
A corny cliché
So dead the corpse is but dust
Embarrassed like cuddling lovers discovered in lust
I surrender sorrowfully

"Just coffee for me"

One For the Poets

One For the Poets

Only poets read poetry

Polite friends purchase

Books to be forgotten

Destined to be donated

Or sold at garage sales

For twenty five cents

But I am typing these words

Letter by letter

In the context of the absurd

Hoping one day to be heard

I visited the book store

Poetry had three cases

One dedicated to Shakespeare

From Macbeth to King Leer

And all the others throughout history

Had two

So there is something to be said

For iambic pentameter

Containing a meaningful message

With thrilling metaphor

Us poets are vain

The best of us insane

For despite our obscurity

A kernel of corn hidden in Iowa

We will change the world!

Return to Tintern Abbey Again

 Return to Tintern Abbey Again

Misconception in a dream

I notice not a true rhyme

But to me it did seem

A place from another time

I never saw a city in decay

As an old man fading away

Though nature is exquisite

There is far more to it

Why worship the created

While the maker is hated

Yet let me not travel that way

I’ll guard the words I say

For I come not to judge you

Just to say I’ve been there too

With you I sit under the tree

In spirit I feel your glee

Thank God you were not blind

Thank God that He is kind

For what in nature you see

Is but one facet of beauty

Oh master poet long dead

Some worship the words you said

I realize it was not meant so

Each has a separate way to go

To unlock what is within

That is how to begin

For each one is unique

With their own voice to speak

At Tintern Abbey we did meet

As comrades in battle’s heat

The words you have once said

Your cause I have deserted

At Tintern Abbey may you forever rest

For at Tintern Abbey it was your best

At Tintern Abbey you did discover

That nature she is your brother

It may be unnatural your view

But I see it also too

More strange then a circus freak

More beauty then we can speak

In wilderness perfection we find

Yet this perfection is so unkind

Spring the coming of life

Summer celebration of the living

Fall it cuts as a knife

Winter it is so unforgiving

The circle it is then whole

On the circle travels your soul

Past, future, present

Still your life is spent

Your travel nowhere fast

I pray your nowhere to last

So farewell my good friend

At Tintern Abbey we’ll meet once again

Jitterbugging With Jezebel

 Jitterbugging With Jezebel

One two three four

Dancing sweetly on the floor

Take you partner twist her round

Hold her tightly on the ground

One two three four

Soldiers marching off to war

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

Cinderella riding your pumpkin coach

And shoes that snugly fit

Fairy tail propaganda

Counterfeit

Insatiable - psychotic politicians pondering power

Starvation - junkyard dog gnawing at a tin can

Desperation -  gruesome wallflower lusting for a prom date

Longing for more ---

One two three four

Soldiers marching off to war

Wait they've used that line before

Say hey whispers Uncle Sam

Don't you know who I Am?

I'm the red, white and blue

Got stars in my eyes too

and I WANT YOU!

There was a man so mild and meek

Who taught us love and to turn the cheek

In his name they love to speak

The sky is gray and the future bleak

One two three four

Bankers divvying up the score

Poetry has become irrelevant

Says the preacher quoting psalms

God has become irrelevant

Mocks mammon making bombs

The Disappearing Act

The Disappearing Act

Center stage

No one denies it was an act of rage

Hiding behind a Bush

Giving things a push

There stood the mysterious Houdini

Next to him a busty woman

In an itsy bitsy teeny weenie yellow polka dot bikini

She had two magnificent towers

As I recall

The tallest of them all

I could stare at them for hours

The marvelous magician

Makes the first tower disappear

Without a hint

It collapses in its footprint

Twenty two minutes later alligator

The dastardly deed is repeated

And all the king’s horses

And all the king’s men

Couldn’t return the towers again

Honestly

Thank God for the double insurance policy

Never mind the expense for removing the asbestos

But I recall that isn’t all

Our marvelous woman

Now with a flat chest

Still had her marvelous treasure chest

But despite no act by Houdini

She lost the bottom of her bikini

All in all

The panties falling in freefall

Her vaginal hair shaped in the number seven

This is the hidden story of  Nine Eleven

Next time you visit an engineering school

Educate yourself you fool

Ask a PhD in structural engineering

The physics behind the three buildings disappearing

September eleventh is a day dark and black

The disappearing act

Was an inside attack

And to settle the alleged score

We got more war that’s for sure

Firm in our resolve

Attacking countries not involved

Chaplain Harry’s Regret

 Chaplain Harry’s Regret

Harry Emerson Fosdick as a young man was an officer in the United States Army during World War I. In his capacity as chaplain he would pray with the soldiers who would attack the German machine gun nest. The majority of the soldiers would never return alive. In later life the preacher regretted this part of his past.

What I’d done I’d rather not say

We would gather

In the morn to start the day

How could a word to the Creator be ill?

I prayed for blessings to kill

I prayed for blessings to kill!

I prayed for blessings to kill

I would look the boys in their eyes

And fill their heads with lies

And say, “Boys do your best”

The machine gun nest they would attack

And most would not come back

I now walk the silent ground

Once filled with explosions and horrid sound

White crosses abound

Everywhere to be found

Lined neatly and precise row by row

Oh the secrets they know

I too was once young in age

My deeds recorded on eternal page

Yes I too was once the fool

The devil’s tool

What is war?

Once this green silent meadow

Was divided by two trenches defining no man’s land

War is Hell and nothing grand

It is humanity’s ugliest blight

And till this day fills me with fright

When I lay on my bed calm, serene and still

Recalling how I prayed for blessings to kill

I prayed for blessings to kill……
