Sunset Sonnet 9

Sunset Sonnet 9

It’s getting late Syl the clock is ticking

I isolated penning poetic verse

You playing your game the keyboard clicking

A few words back and forth so we converse

Tomorrow is the Lord’s Day praise His name

Six days for men one for the I Am

Twenty six years on my path free of shame

The water’s of wickedness God did dam

We shall travel to the inner city

Newark a place in decay forgotten

But I know from high to low God is with me

The first shall be last so seek the bottom

In glorious voices our praises ring

Glory to God and glory to the King

Train Wreck

Train Wreck

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

Running down the line looking so fine

A hell of a train called make it all mine

Iron and steel it’s a fire of fury

Get off of the tracks it’s in a hurry

A world away it didn’t seem true

I fell in love like young girls always do

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck a world of pain

A train wreck life’s insane

A train wreck coming in vain

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck and it’s coming again

Mother picked my man before I was born

Between custom and Love I was torn

Outcast I rode the plains with Crazy Horse

The elders would not let me divorce

We were free as the sky never knowing

It all would end with a whistle blowing

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck a world of pain

A train wreck life’s insane

A train wreck coming in vain

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck and it’s coming again

Liquor lies and soldiers ready to fight

So much for us making love all night

I kissed him hard as we said goodbye

I knew we were through I broke down to cry

Our hope was just to live our own way

Before the iron dragon had its day

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck a world of pain

A train wreck life’s insane

A train wreck coming in vain

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck and it’s coming again

Like the Buffalo we are no more

We won the battle but lost the war

Like my people I am of the past

Love stories have no choice but to last

At six every morn the train rolls by

When something is born something must die

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck a world of pain

A train wreck life’s insane

A train wreck coming in vain

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

A train wreck and it’s coming again

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

I ride the plains you can still hear my cry

When something is born something must die

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh

Now I See

Now I See

Farm Road was a dusty trail

With a creek and a bog

Quick Mathew would catch a frog

And we’d keep him in a pail

Tadpoles would flourish in the stream

Wiggly and slimy in hand

We were living in a dream

And we did not understand

There were woods thick with bush

Branches, twigs moved with a push

All around lost in bliss

Of Mother Nature’s wilderness

The river shallow with slippery stone

Mathew and I crossed it alone

Trying not to get wet feet

As if soggy socks signaled defeat

Now the stream is dark and void

The frogs, the fish all destroyed

Farm Road is paved like all the rest

Houses built where there was forest

Progress they say I want to scream

I see your progress, progress be damned

We were living in a dream

And we did not understand

No rocks to turn to see a millipede

Our refuge of nature is now gone

A victim of man and his greed

Yet still life it must go on

There is little in us worth to redeem

The world goes on as Satan planned

We were living in a dream

And we did not understand

Mother In The Nursing Home

Mother In The Nursing Home

Mother was a rock of support

Always advocating for my welfare

A fierce defender

Defeating the number one contender

Apathy

She saved all of my writings in the attic

Considering them precious and priceless

Who knows one day?

Still it is the nature of humanity

To soften in the latter years

To fall into the hands of frightful fears

And so Mother was in the nursing home

After the breast cancer, the pace maker and the stroke

We sadly learned the cancer had returned

A terminal diagnosis

Six days a week I visited her

Only absent Wednesday as Sylvia and I went to Bible study

An hour after work it was my steadfast duty

I'd sit at her side making my presence known

Lord have mercy on those abandoned alone

We'd watch the nightly news and I'd depart

Saturday Sylvia and I were all day by mother

My wife, the marvelous cook she is, would make

Piping hot chicken soup from fresh whole chickens

Enough to last the week through

Delicious and nutritious

And Sundays it was between services

To stay a couple of hours

I did all in my power that I could do

I remember the last days

They sent mother home to die

Marianne was by her side

I got the call at four a.m. in the morning

My heart descended below the depths of Sheol

The rock had been grinded to dust

Mother had died

I cried

There is a solace

I was there when she needed me

A true champion she lived six months more

Then the doctors predicted

She was in the fight of her life, for her life

I did not repay what she gave me

Love keeps no score

Under The Wire

 Under The Wire

On La Rue Avenue the traffic light is stuck on red

All the working girls trade their entire worlds just to be fed

Big Tiny’s cruising losing time in his pink Cadillac

Listen to what I say one day the sun will set and never come back

She cries out I got love some love for hire

Give me my desire under the wire

I got a fire and I wanna take it higher

Lust is a lousy liar under the wire

Down on Wall Street the bankers compete for just one more buck

If you’re poor and don’t want to fight this war you’re out of luck

The U.S.S. Liberty tells me everything I need to know

We can fornicate at eight get dinner then catch an early show

She cries out I got love some love for hire

Give me my desire under the wire

I got a fire and I wanna take it higher

Lust is a lousy liar under the wire

Mother Teresa chit chats about the poor devouring lobster and steak

Writing lyrics on pages of dreams looking for my big break

In Utopia Todd is called God and he still don’t wanna work

My the unknown has grown fear ferments in the shadows where they lurk

She cries out I got love some love for hire

Give me my desire under the wire

I got a fire and I wanna take it higher

Lust is a lousy liar under the wire

A gaggle of drunks stumbling along mumbling a song that they used to know

I knew Michelle very well it was hell watching her perform on the go

Meanwhile without a smile the poets create free verse not worthy of time

I’ve gone half way around the world in Timbuktu I found a happy rhyme

Home’s where I want to be I read that in San Francisco Bay

He was the man of her dreams but unfortunately gay

Love is a mysterious force the source of everything good

I would bring peace and joy to our planet Earth if I only could

She cries out I got love some love for hire

Give me my desire under the wire

I got a fire and I wanna take it higher

Lust is a lousy liar under the wire

When I’m Gone

 When I’m Gone

Baby you’re the very best but ain’t nobody that sweet

Maybe a lovely melody but honey I’m the beat

You’re gold I agree but idols they only fall too short

Maybe I find you in my mind but you’re breaking my heart

When I’m gone you will finally see

There’s a lot more than you in we

When I’m gone you will finally see

That’s there something sad about being free

When two lovers discovers that coins really have three sides

There’s the front and the back and the one that always hides

You’re lying there naked I see all that’s sacred and profane

We got our history but love is a mystery none can explain

When I’m gone you will finally see

There’s a lot more than you in we

When I’m gone you will finally see

That’s there something sad about being free

Making love all through the night we don’t fight when we are one

But darling I hear you snarling foul when the sex is done

Can’t you feel it there’s something out there bigger than us all

Take care and be aware say a silent prayer that we don’t fall

When I’m gone you will finally see

There’s a lot more than you in we

When I’m gone you will finally see

That’s there something sad about being free

Ecstasy is a pill ecstasy is a thrill you were a shark in the dark ocean deep

I was fishing be the shore but I wanted more something that I could keep

You bit that bait but I made you wait momma always said don’t be too easy

I gave you a try and made you my guy cause honey you knew how to please me

I’m a woman and women want to be cherished like treasure

But I feel that the deal is I perish for your pleasure

So take my advice love me twice and then hold on real tight

For sure as the coming sun we’re done after tonight

When I’m gone you will finally see

There’s a lot more than you in we

When I’m gone you will finally see

That’s there something sad about being free

Flying Out To Anaheim

 Flying Out To Anaheim

If you ever get serious about love don’t hesitate

Meet me at seven on Huntington Beach for our first date

We’ll have drinks at the Bungalow watching the sunset

I’ll give you tender surrender without any regret

Here I Am flying out to Anaheim

I’m headed to the scene of the crime

Oooh, where can I find the perfect rhyme

There you go flying out to Anaheim

I have dreams about being a rock and roll superstar

Manic nights of delight playing my electric guitar

Writing songs about a kind of love that transcends life

That some day in some way we’ll become man and wife

Here I Am flying out to Anaheim

I’m headed to the scene of the crime

Oooh, where can I find the perfect rhyme

There you go flying out to Anaheim

The thrill of the chase merges with the glory of grace

You got a body of pure energy and a perfect face

Inside a heart that burns with a warmth of compassion

No idle hands you understand loves in the action

Here I Am flying out to Anaheim

I’m headed to the scene of the crime

Oooh, where can I find the perfect rhyme

There you go flying out to Anaheim

We are all playing our part but we get to decide a thing or two

Destiny be damned against the odds against the gods I chose you

Look at heaven above I won’t let the stars determine my fate

We are born to die some are crucified and baby I ain’t got time to wait

Running down the Garden Grove bursting free from my chains

There are answers to questions but nothing ever explains

But in your kiss there is a bliss I cannot forget

I’m flying to Anaheim cause you’re the winning bet

Here I Am flying out to Anaheim

I’m headed to the scene of the crime

Oooh, where can I find the perfect rhyme

There you go flying out to Anaheim

A Poet's Pain

 A Poet's Pain

When I received my high school directory I listed myself as a poet

At the time I considered my selection better than unemployed or mentally ill

I always hurt it just took a long time to realize my inner agony was abnormal

That the abuse, teasing, mockery, bullying wasn't universal

Now I seek to liberate the world from every single force of oppression

I have learned reality and have digested the brutal lesson

So I write poetry hoping to inspire

That somehow in a spiritual way to ignite a wholesome fire

That among the world there should be an ambiguous equality

That the culture of 'third world' nations is perhaps more valid than our own

From selfish rebels to world exploiters so this nation has grown

I take no pride in Native American genocide

Go to the source any force of evil must be denied

And in the process rip to shreds the smug arrogant pride

That self aggrandizing declaration that this nation can military intervene

Wherever, whenever and against any enemy its foggy eyes have seen

It is not okay to spend trillions to kill in aggressive war

While billions suffer from hunger and people are poverty stricken poor

I have meandered of off the straight and narrow far from my rhymes

I focus on meaning, obvious as a June moon bellowing with sacred chimes

There is a righteousness and war is one of man's foulest crimes

Yet in easy contentment society is placated into a deceitful lull

It's not my kids going to die; besides such things are out of my control

I believe in the masses, I believe in the power of Love, I believe in the example

I have fought the system claw and fang though I am presently obscure

When motivated millions make many moves the impact is sure

I throw my withered scarecrow frame across the gears of the machine

For the demagogues are blaspheming in heated rhetoric of hatred most obscene

With blood and oil they grease the slashing juggernaut

Killing you dirty or killing you clean do you know what I mean?

And in the midst of the red, red rain

A cry asking why so many innocents must perish and die

I observe the cruelty in society how lives are flawed, empty and vain

From deep within wickeder than the worst sin is a poet's pain

For I have no power to make a change but rather to simply explain

So I write and fight in words that shimmer and glimmer in delight

For with hope I think about the slim chance that I just might

Inspire an entire generation to be conscious of the world's ways

That the government is not our masters and only our ideals should we praise

All in all leading the call so that we may arrive collectively at better days

While that dark choice seeks to silence my voice quoting 'you are insane'

A poet's pain

Jupitar

 Jupitar

I want to go to Jupitar

Jupitar

Do you think there’s war

On Jupitar, Jupitar

We could have a cosmic cruise

If we lose we lose

I want to go to Jupitar

Jupitar

Way up on a star

That’s where the good ones are

On Jupitar, Jupitar

Captain John and his merry band

Would sure like to lend a hand

On Jupitar

You can be a star

Dance up on the bar

We all know where we are

It’s Jupitar

Touch down landing

Are you understanding

We’re in heaven high

On Jupitar in the sky

If you search you’ll find

Jupitar is a state of mind

Let’s all go to Jupitar

Jupitar

Ain’t no hardship or war

On Jupitar, Jupitar

Let’s take that cosmic cruise

Ain’t no way we can lose

Changing With The Wind

 Changing With The Wind

Momma was a free spirt always on her own

Poppa came and went like a lonely rolling stone

Free love was the thing but it came with a high price

Sadly there’s only room for two in paradise

She was always changing with the wind

You can’t expect a blessing when you’re in sin

Every day in every way she was born again

She was always changing with the wind

As a rule children are cruel and such is the truth

There’s a blessed righteousness only found in youth

She turned the other cheek because she couldn’t fight

She had dreams that one day she’d grow wings for flight

She was always changing with the wind

You can’t expect a blessing when you’re in sin

Every day in every way she was born again

She was always changing with the wind

At sixteen she split the scene heading west by thumb

She had no religion but sung we shall overcome

With options few she drew close to a man with a lie

Hell has many forms but in the storm she was dry

She was always changing with the wind

You can’t expect a blessing when you’re in sin

Every day in every way she was born again

She was always changing with the wind

One day she looked in the mirror and said What am I doing in this place?

One day the sky became clearer she asked Why did my mother call me Grace?

You can only sing the blues if you pay your dues it’s not something you choose

There are many paths in life all have strife but that won’t make the evening news

Grace felt the invisible chains and simply turned the key

Headed to a small town calling herself Madam Marie

She was telling fortunes consoling the broken hearted

At that moment the glory of the story started

She was always changing with the wind

You can’t expect a blessing when you’re in sin

Every day in every way she was born again

She was always changing with the wind

I’ll Start Tomorrow

 I’ll Start Tomorrow

Lavender is the color of surrender go pay your dues

Red is dead he said so it’s the blues that I choose

Sleeping late ain’t the way to make dreams come true

Love and hate spotlight at midnight do you have a clue

I’ll start tomorrow I guess

I’ll start tomorrow my life’s a mess

There ain’t anybody here I wanna impress

I’ll start tomorrow I guess

The wind is blowing we’re going to the twilight zone

Nothing is the greatest something that I’ve ever known

There is a lead zeppelin crashing into the endless sea

Atlantis home of the divine was fine until anarchy

I’ll start tomorrow I guess

I’ll start tomorrow my life’s a mess

There ain’t anybody here I wanna impress

I’ll start tomorrow I guess

Sean sighs he’s got two more years of college to go

What the future brings he sings I just don’t know

The moment is now we have no promise of more

Life is for living quit trying to count the score

I’ll start tomorrow I guess

I’ll start tomorrow my life’s a mess

There ain’t anybody here I wanna impress

I’ll start tomorrow I guess

You’ll never reach your destination with procrastination

A little hesitation some doubt about then no salvation

The world spins round and round today is your chance

Nothing in is the greatest sin life is a lady to romance

Sean is slowly counting the pennies one by one

Is this living? Is God forgiving? I ain’t having fun

None can determine exactly where we start

But the day belongs to those strong enough to follow their heart

I’ll start tomorrow I guess

I’ll start tomorrow my life’s a mess

There ain’t anybody here I wanna impress

I’ll start tomorrow I guess

Hey Dolly

 Hey Dolly

You were a farmer’s daughter with a heart of gold

You were pure fantasy and fantasy doesn’t grow old

Dolly Parton it was a name that everyone knew

Dolly Parton you know sometimes dreams come true

Hey Dolly you were the best

Hey Dolly enter heaven’s rest

Hey Dolly done is the test

Hey Dolly you were the best

Working nine to five but infused which such style

You made the music come alive you made me smile

Beauty and grace with some genuine humility

God has called you home you’re finally free

Hey Dolly you were the best

Hey Dolly enter heaven’s rest

Hey Dolly done is the test

Hey Dolly you were the best

Jolene ain’t coming between you and your angel

From cradle to the grave love was the only goal

When you sang you’d bring out the joy in your soul

But life is a war and battles they take their toll

Hey Dolly you were the best

Hey Dolly enter heaven’s rest

Hey Dolly done is the test

Hey Dolly you were the best

Song birds the sing and song birds they fly

And song birds laugh and song birds cry

Music is the language we all understand

You were the star the queen of the band

You were a farmer’s daughter with a heart of gold

You were pure fantasy and fantasy doesn’t grow old

Dolly Parton it was a name that everyone knew

Dolly Parton you know sometimes dreams come true

Hey Dolly you were the best

Hey Dolly enter heaven’s rest
