In Memory Of Zyon Brooks

In Memory Of Zyon Brooks (2002-2021)

Zyon is a mountain never washed to the Sea

Zyon is memory wildly free

Laughter after the tragedy

Embracing the racing memory

And there is no sense and reason

I would accuse God of treason

But that would not serve the cause

Or help at all

Adam too had a tremendous fall

Where do we go from here?

When cheeks moisten with fresh tears?

And the pale ghost of agony appears

On the day he turns thirty?

Will the dagger hurt me? (I know it will, still)

The sin of what could have been

I reflect in all the honesty I can embrace

A bike rolling strolling down the road in a race

Children are children even at nineteen

Where have we been?

In Memory of Zyon Brooks

Read it now in the history books

A tragedy that could have been adverted?

What purpose has it served?

Beyond the fact that we are aware

That so many care

With kind word or prayer

Or even a shot of bliss

In a poem such as this

For I am facing the long goodbye

No stranger to tears a human being will cry

The bell tolls we’ve heard that line

But the sound is different when you claim it as mine

I hope Zyon your wings are strong enough now

To fly and even soar

Wherever you are there is no poverty, starvation or war

We’ll see you on the other side somehow

As gentle saints in remembrance take a bow

What is done is done

Farewell our beloved son

There is so much left to say

But that is left for another day

Cannon Fodder A.K.A Beloved Daughter

 Cannon Fodder A.K.A Beloved Daughter

NeNe, I've never spelled her name before, had no need

Easy, that was her deceased son's nickname

Blown away on the Newark streets, another casualty

Like autumn leaves falling from the trees casually

But in the dirge of death the community's spirit overflows

Mourner's packed the church house for the funeral

Some in suits and some in tatters, it's the heart that matters

Jessica, nice young lady, singing the soulful street serenade of sorrow

No education, no experience, no relative to lay down nepotism

Economic think tanks serve the lustful desire of the Federal Reserve

Calculating to four decimal points how to maximize potential profit

And if the numbers rising on the sheets equates death upon the streets

Well it's somebody else's child irregardless, not their mess

So NeNe wept when Jessica enlisted, it's her way out she insisted

The crazed maze is carefully crafted by master psychologists

Slavery is packaged in a pretty green uniform under an American flag

You'll be serving your country, become part of a grand family

Just hope you don't get raped, physically, mentally, spiritually

Robots make efficient killers, we haven't mastered MK Ultra just yet

So Irving Berlin's 'God Bless America' defeats Woody Guthrie's 'This Land is Your Land'

Let it be known that nothing is of yet written in stone

For Jessica at the moment is both alive and well

As we journey collectively on our space ship Mother Earth

Wars wage, in every age, the planet's spinning and we keep sinning

A war on terror is the bold declaration of a total farce, unless you look in a mirror

Where more of our soldiers commit suicide by far then die in combat

And we pray for Jessica with all of our might

She is amidst enemy territory unaware of the peril infesting her soul

Please Lord, don't let our beloved child die in some useless war

The prayer echoes in Chinese, and Russian, and Arabic and Hebrew and...

For these words are not a sonnet of surrender

Rather a battle cry for forevermore, a war on war

When statisticians coldly calculate the predicted rate of slaughter

Do not see cannon fodder rather know it is Jessica our beloved daughter

I don't want to see NeNe cry at a funeral no more

Ghetto Blue

 Ghetto Blue

A little girl on the street

Trying to find some food to eat

Can’t you see her cryin’

Can’t you see she’s dyin’

Why don’t you help her Lord above

All she needs is a shot of Love

People pass with their heads turned

They should all want to learn about the

Girl with the heart of gold

The girl you should yearn to hold

The cold and naked truth

About the girl with the eyes of ghetto blue

This concrete jungle’s a mess

It churns feelings hard to express

It’s time to open our eyes

How many more must die

As I sit and sing my song

Hoping it can right a wrong

I share my soul for all to see

To those that don’t act kindly to the

Girl with the heart of gold

The girl you should yearn to hold

The cold and naked truth

About the girl with the eyes of ghetto blue

I long for the day

When the children can play

No worry of evil near

Live a life without fear

Maybe if we worked together

We’d be able to make things better

No more blood will be shed

No more tears will be shed by the

Girl with the heart of gold

The girl you should yearn to hold

The cold and naked truth

About the girl with the eyes of ghetto blue

No more blood will be shed

No more tears will be shed by the

Girl with the heart of gold

The girl you should yearn to hold

The cold and naked truth

About the girl with the eyes of ghetto blue

Into The Morning

Into The Morning

After making love

As the light from the hall

Faintly shines

A beacon of reality

Conflicting with my dreary dreams

I embrace your warm body

Secure in my arms

Deeply satisfied

For the moment, only for the moment

I have a secret

Encrypted in the language of stars

I am an astrologer

A seer of visions

A prophet of things yet to come

It haunts me

Like the satisfaction coursing through my bones

Wars and rumors of wars

The bitterest one

Fought in the psyche of my being

I weep for the children

Born for the slaughter

Who will never know a blue sky

Or be able to drink

From the refreshing fountains

Of God's green Earth

But you with your heavy breath

Are oblivious of the holocaust

On the horizon

Cannot you read the signs of the times?

Am I the only one not blind?

Or is denial such a potent aphrodisiac

And all the wise men

Subtly seduced

Dating In The 20th Century

 Dating In The 20th Century

Love is a four letter word and so shall it be

Face to face living in a place of reality

I held your hand and baby that was the start

I came to understand the beauty of your heart

Back in the days when America was free

We were dating in the twentieth century

It was me and you and you and me

We were dating in the twentieth century

Tripping on modernization in chaotic times

Clever poets were ever searching for better rhymes

Darling tell me one and one do they make two

Darling tell me can you make all my dreams come true

Back in the days when America was free

We were dating in the twentieth century

It was me and you and you and me

We were dating in the twentieth century

Driving the long way home for a romantic view

Whispering sweet nothings the way that lovers do

I was seeking some pie in the sky fantasy

Dreaming of the ideal trying to feel the real me

Back in the days when America was free

We were dating in the twentieth century

It was me and you and you and me

We were dating in the twentieth century

I had visions of you in radiant naked glory

In deepest sin we told the blatant story

True lovers the truth discovers the very soul

Singing the blues in the age of rock and roll

Music on the radio we were singing along

Words of the prophets they were making us strong

Two voices united in the melody of the few

The voices united baby it was me and you

Back in the days when America was free

We were dating in the twentieth century

It was me and you and you and me

We were dating in the twentieth century

Lunch Is Late Once More

 Lunch Is Late Once More

All the residents grumble like croaking frogs

Ancient souls like wandering trolls in a bog

All eyes upon the clock ticking on the wall

One day the castles of hell are going to fall

Lunch is late once more

Zero zero the final score

I’m hungry there ain’t no cure

Lunch is late once more

Understaffed no one laughs bellies aching tight

Endless war same as before God knows it ain’t right

Our chief is hungover he was drinking till dawn

Only skinny carrots left all the meat’s gone

Lunch is late once more

Zero zero the final score

I’m hungry there ain’t no cure

Lunch is late once more

Get me a cheeseburger with fries on the side

Some steak and lobster I won’t be denied

I’m tired of puree give me anything real

Hating this waiting oh where is my meal

Time frozen patients dozing in gentle sleep

Poor Maralyn lost in sin gently she weeps

Expecting eyes look to skies for mana

Nothing is coming not even a banana

Lunch is late once more

Zero zero the final score

I’m hungry there ain’t no cure

Lunch is late once more

Skinny Girls

 Skinny Girls

FAWM #7

Look at that front row cutie shaking her bootie

A sexual soldier serving doing her duty

In the middle of the bright hot spotlight

Her uniform is a storm lightning tight

Skinny girls share a common fantasy

Skinny girls deny all reality

War is coming tomorrow but we got tonight

Skinny girls they’re feeling alright

She says “My name is Valerie but call me Val”

You be good to me make me happy I’ll be your pal

I’m reading her body language for sure

Sweating I’m betting we’re about to score

Skinny girls share a common fantasy

Skinny girls deny all reality

War is coming tomorrow but we got tonight

Skinny girls they’re feeling alright

I’m a cowboy who never lived on a ranch or farm

She’s says you may touch my jewels but please do me no harm

Skinny girls like water colors blend to one

Skinny girls singing “Yes we shall overcome”

Skinny girls share a common fantasy

Skinny girls deny all reality

War is coming tomorrow but we got tonight

Skinny girls they’re feeling alright

I see videos of skinny girls dominating Facebook

I’m a good Christian but I’m tempted to take a look

Skinny girls one step from a pornographic movie

Skinny girls they got me feeling groovy

Val says I’ve got some talent maybe you’d like to see?

In her birthday suit she taps both her head and tummy

I stand amazed looking forward to round two

Val grabs her clothes Oh I got a boyfriend too

Skinny girls share a common fantasy

Skinny girls deny all reality

War is coming tomorrow but we got tonight

Skinny girls they’re feeling alright

Pieces Of Me 2

Pieces Of Me 2

Hand in hand on a midnight stroll

You kissed my lips touched my soul

Under the witness of infinity

You whispered softly

Take these pieces of me

Pieces of me a ring around the heart

No beginning no start

Pieces of me a ring around the heart

Pieces of me never to depart

I sailed the seas searching for what?

In each view never forgot

Even on the eternal sea

The wind spoke quietly

Take these pieces of me

Pieces of me a ring around the heart

No beginning no start

Pieces of me a ring around the heart

Pieces of me never to depart

Forever is something that is made

Red roses grow only to fade

Thorns remain I pray they depart

Can we my love make a new start?

Close enough to be vulnerable

Full of fear trembling wonderful

Tomorrow holds only promise

Sorrow to turn to bliss

Love’s fetters so shall it be

Take these pieces of me

Pieces of me a ring around the heart

No beginning no start

Pieces of me a ring around the heart

Pieces of me never to depart
