Lorca

 Lorca

Before I read Lorca

My words were blunt swords for

Slicing rotted wood

Constructing

Rackety trellises

To fortify

Pathetic castles of sand

Praying never the waves

Or even harsh winds

Ascend to my feeble heights

Where from above with disdain

Cupid mocked

My juvenile sonnets of adoration

Before I read Lorca

My muses imploded

Like small delicate fish

Swimming in a shallow stream

Scatter

As a rude rock rapes

Their calm tranquil waters

Before I read Lorca

I had never truly lived

POLISHED FRAGMENTS

Poet To The Poor

What’s A Girl To Do? (For Yesenia)

What’s A Girl To Do? (For Yesenia)

They say

God is full of grace

I’ve had a long stay

And never seen His face

But holy rollers with an extra penny

I’ve seen a plenty

While the business man on the road

He wants to explode

To sing a merry rhyme and have a good old time

But selling sex is a crime

And thus I am just tolerated

While hypocritically hated

So I humbly ask you

What’s a girl to do?

Please tell me

Cause starvations wages

Won’t fill my child’s belly

You see there’s more to survival

Than just quoting the Bible

Wall Street gets a free pass

As does endless war

What of the working class?

Or the lonesome whore?

I sell my body

But those in control

Have sold their soul

And thus I am persecuted by those who make the laws

In some self righteous cause

But hear my hushed whisper

The politician is my best customer

So I humbly ask you

What’s a girl to do?

So until the revolution

And a permanent solution

I will practice my trade to get paid

Unless somebody slits my throat

Or beats me within an inch of my life

Just cause they can

And you don’t give a damn

As long as they don’t tell your wife

Tom, Dick, Harry and John

They’re all getting it on
