The Story of the Bluebird

 The Story of the Bluebird

There was a strong man who was the strongest being in all of creation, and His name was the Wind. The Wind was blind, though. Unfortunately for the rest of creation, the Wind always had somewhere to go, and it seemed that he was always in a hurry to get there. Not being too bright and being blind, the Wind would unknowingly push others out of the way in a huff and a puff. This upset quite a host of people, especially the arrogant ones that considered themselves gods. I mean, if you're a god, you shouldn't be pushed around by anyone, especially a blind man. At the end of the day, the Wind would rest in his Oak Tree at the highest height of creation. Up there, he could hear every utterance in the entire Universe. The Wind would hear people curse his name with the foulest of words and meanest of intentions. This hurt the Wind's feelings, who did not understand at all, and it even made him cry, sometimes with bitter weeping.

Now there was the Blue Bird, and he/she was the most beautiful thing in all creation. The Blue Bird (who was really a shade of purple) would fly all around. Whenever the Blue Bird came, people would immediately shout, "Look the Blue Bird." Then every creature that was around would come rushing to see their wonderful, feathered friend. They, too, would scream and shout in their happiness.

Now far, far, far more beautiful than the Blue Bird's appearance was her song. Yet nobody would hear the song because they were too busy shouting and screaming in her presence! However, the Blue Bird would go to the Wind's tree late at night and sing her lovely song to him. Thus, the Blind Man saw the best of all.

Big Man On The Block

Big Man On The Block

Back in sixty two the sky was blue turning gray

Something about evil in people won’t go away

Down in southeast Asia Vietnam was smoking

The Soviets were red and nobody was joking

He was the keeper of the sacred clock

They called him the big man on the block

He knew how to roll he knew how to rock

He was of course the big man on the block

Dob Bylan was singing folk songs chasing his dream

Napalm was setting heaven on fire with a scream

Propaganda machine was searching for a perfect phrase

Preacher on the corner screeching about the last days

He was the keeper of the sacred clock

They called him the big man on the block

He knew how to roll he knew how to rock

He was of course the big man on the block

I was born into a world lacking love and grace

Evil was the denomination of the human race

I weep for the hope of what this world could have been

Look around it will be found the wages of sin

He was the keeper of the sacred clock

They called him the big man on the block

He knew how to roll he knew how to rock

He was of course the big man on the block

In the recording studio we turn the dial of the reverb to ten

When the good reverend speaks the truth he gets no amen

We are all casualties of the truth there are no exceptions

I was reading a book and a crook with great expectations

At the end of the day we all pay the piper’s due

What would you do if all of your sweet dreams came true

Bankers and engineers play of the fears of war

We’re living in the bosom of Babylon the Whore

He was the keeper of the sacred clock

They called him the big man on the block

He knew how to roll he knew how to rock

He was of course the big man on the block

Joey

Joey

Joey sits at the store on Bloomfield Avenue

Life buzzes on by but he’s got a great view

It’s a hard world and we all gotta earn our pay

But dreaming is free so here’s to a better day

In life Joey wants five stars

A double bass with triple guitars

I’m on my way to a paying gig

I’m one break away from hitting it big

He writes his words down because hey you never know

We had humble starts before playing the show

Joey looks in the mirror and sees fantasy

Hey baby there ain’t no reason why that can’t be me

In life Joey wants five stars

A double bass with triple guitars

I’m on my way to a paying gig

I’m one break away from hitting it big

Life is a long and winding grind

Before you start you’re left behind

Ain’t nothing more precious than peace of mind

If you can see you realize we’re all blind

Joey’s days are long and paying his dues never ends

He counts his blessings one by one health and good friends

At night Joey walks home he looks to heaven high

He might not make it but he’ll give it his best try

In life Joey wants five stars

A double bass with triple guitars

I’m on my way to a paying gig

I’m one break away from hitting it big

Dragonflies Emerging From My Pond

Dragonflies Emerging From My Pond

From the nearly silent humming

I know they are coming

An event I find so fond

Dragonflies emerging from my pond

It is a sight

Of wonder and delight

Most majestic of the insects

I hold them in great respect

Their wings flapping fast

Gracious long green bodies

Resembling the behemoths of the past

One by one I see them rise

Until like stars they speckle the skies

Every time it captures my heart

Dragonflies emerging from my pond

It is God’s work of art
