Shades Of Blue

 Shades Of Blue

By John Kaniecki

There are many shades of blue

And all I recall

Remind me of you

There are many shades of blue

Wide, thin, small and tall

But none of them are true

I see the sky

I cry
I see the ocean deep

I weep

There are many shades of blue

And all I recall

Remind me of you

And how you weren’t true

So what’s a poor boy to do?

There are many shades of blue

And I’d trade a kingdom or two

For one of those days full of charm

When I held you tight in my arms

But the past has fled

And my heart is dead

It is no longer red

But alas

Entrenched in a blue steadfast

There are many shades of blue

And I wish I never knew

Your love so tender and sweet

So in bitter defeat

I lay these words at your feet

There are many shades of blue

And the poet cannot conceive

Or the man of faith believe

Or have a clue

Of the love one can receive

From somebody as wonderful as you

I’ve Seen Answers

 I’ve Seen Answers (FAWM #5)

Fourth of July parade soldiers march in uniform

Sky blue and clear but I feel the coming storm

Black lives matter declares a homemade sign

A man selling Bibles claiming to be divine

I’ve seen answers in black and white

I’ve seen answers in the thick of the fight

The good Lord knows things ain’t right

I’ve seen answers I’ve seen the light

Buddy Holly was a jolly minstrel so profound

A child’s weeping sadly in the lost and found

Write a book of sin on things never been

I’ve walked the great beyond hidden somewhere between

I’ve seen answers in black and white

I’ve seen answers in the thick of the fight

The good Lord knows things ain’t right

I’ve seen answers I’ve seen the light

Oh please don’t weep for me mothers of Jerusalem

Why I cry it’s an outright lie us or them

Crack of the whip time slips to Judgement Day

You can cheat the entire world but you’re gonna pay

I’ve seen answers in black and white

I’ve seen answers in the thick of the fight

The good Lord knows things ain’t right

I’ve seen answers I’ve seen the light

Computers this computers that technology soars

Robot warriors aren’t afraid to march into wars

The plague may be vague but we don’t have a cure

Jesus rose from the dead of that I am sure

I’m forgetting Alexander don’t you dare say great

There’s heroes of love and champions of hate

The Minotaur is a real bore these days

The rat race taken the place of the endless maze

I’ve seen answers in black and white

I’ve seen answers in the thick of the fight

The good Lord knows things ain’t right

I’ve seen answers I’ve seen the light

Canto 10

 Canto 10

From the window I saw an eagle fly

Soaring in the heaven’s azure blue sky

Said my friend with pipe in his withered hand

The universe’s mysteries I do understand

My gaze lowered to view his wrinkled face

If I wasn’t high I would leave this place

But the Earth pipe he passed to me

And I inhaled then I did disagree

To admit omnipotence is a fatal sin

Humility is the place to begin

For knowledge alone solves no mystery at all

True understanding is answering God’s call

Then the wind whipped and sang a moan

And I understood, yes I alone

I looked upon the fool with great pity

How futile is the chase to infinity

Counting one by one is how they go

Me I simply divide by zero

It’s nothing special and nothing at all

True understanding is answering God’s call

The wine in my glass was once full to me

But long ago I have made the vessel empty

My friend was stoned and stoned I should be

For to some being high is heresy
