"Women" by Marisa Sykes - Contest

Women

by Marisa Sykes

Sweet, dainty, itty and bitty.
Stand there, say nothing, and only look pretty.
Stay home and cook
And focus on how you look.

We can now choose the President, though still a man
To be seen as ‘stronger’ is deep in our plan.
Now we’re strong and can almost fly
But we should still stay quiet and never defy.

They expect us to be gorgeous and to have pretty faces
But still somehow we should “stay in our places”
We hold our marches and scream out our names
As the world now sees us and catches our flames.

I do the same job but get lower pay
But still each one of us is paving the way.
We are now getting our well earned respect
And each day we stand to reflect
On the strong women who powered through.
Until the day we start anew.
