Now I See

Now I See

Farm Road was a dusty trail

With a creek and a bog

Quick Mathew would catch a frog

And we’d keep him in a pail

Tadpoles would flourish in the stream

Wiggly and slimy in hand

We were living in a dream

And we did not understand

There were woods thick with bush

Branches, twigs moved with a push

All around lost in bliss

Of Mother Nature’s wilderness

The river shallow with slippery stone

Mathew and I crossed it alone

Trying not to get wet feet

As if soggy socks signaled defeat

Now the stream is dark and void

The frogs, the fish all destroyed

Farm Road is paved like all the rest

Houses built where there was forest

Progress they say I want to scream

I see your progress, progress be damned

We were living in a dream

And we did not understand

No rocks to turn to see a millipede

Our refuge of nature is now gone

A victim of man and his greed

Yet still life it must go on

There is little in us worth to redeem

The world goes on as Satan planned

We were living in a dream

And we did not understand
