Death Machine

Death Machine

It’s life on the funny farm

Safe away from life’s harm

Tell me what can you do

When the world’s crazy like you

The whole world is insane

It really racks my brain

Death Machine

Keep that motor clean

Got that nuclear power

To end it in an hour

Tell me Mr. Preacher

Predict the future

Are we lost

To nuclear holocaust

What about Jesus

Won’t he save us

Before I go

I need to know

Death Machine

Keep that motor clean

Got that nuclear power

To end it in an hour

They’re destroying the Amazon

Soon it’ll be gone

Just another memory

Like the Navaho and Apache

Man sings like the rains

With each drop he complains

When will man see

To let things just be

Death Machine

Keep that motor clean

Got that nuclear power

To end it in an hour

It’s life on the funny farm

Safe away from life’s harm

Tell me what can you do

When the world’s crazy like you

The whole world is insane

It really racks my brain

Death Machine

Keep that motor clean

Got that nuclear power

To end it in an hour

Tell me Mr. Preacher

Predict the future

Are we lost

To nuclear holocaust

What about Jesus

Won’t he save us

Before I go

I need to know

Death Machine

Keep that motor clean

Got that nuclear power

To end it in an hour

They’re destroying the Amazon

Soon it’ll be gone

Just another memory

Like the Navaho and Apache

Man sings like the rains

With each drop he complains

When will man see

To let things just be

Death Machine

Keep that motor clean

Got that nuclear power

To end it in an hour

Poems In The Night

 Poems In The Night

Woke up this morning I decided to change the world

I picked me a red rose and gave it to my girl

She smiled when I said you’re my valentine

But they’re still dropping bombs in Palestine

Here I am writing poems in the night

It’s a silly way to fight the fight

Maybe words can set the world right

Here I am writing poems in the night

Went downtown to watch the shoppers shop

The were in a frenzy spending money non stop

I did my best and I managed to keep my smile

Oh the silly things you do to stay in style

Here I am writing poems in the night

It’s a silly way to fight the fight

Maybe words can set the world right

Here I am writing poems in the night

I went to the meeting but I wasn’t allowed to speak

I found the door after I turned my other cheek

The sign on the door said Uncle Sam wants you

I was wondering what’s a poor boy to do

Here I am writing poems in the night

It’s a silly way to fight the fight

Maybe words can set the world right

Here I am writing poems in the night

The American dream means that you are sleeping

In the hood in the third world mothers are weeping

Bread and butter are losing to wars without end

Bow down to the bull of Baal be our friend

In Red Onion prison they set themselves on fire

Peace love and understanding they’re my desire

They’ve killed all our leaders or bought them out

Forgive me God I believe but I got my doubts

Here I am writing poems in the night

It’s a silly way to fight the fight

Maybe words can set the world right

Here I am writing poems in the night

Barbara

Barbara

FAWM # 27

Barbara was a friend with golden hair

Quick with a smile quicker with a prayer

We’d walk the village to the bagel shop

Two losers finding their way to the top

We were more than a little crazy

There was always Jesus to save me

And if the good Lord couldn’t do the task

There was always Barabra to ask

Life fills popping pills curing ills

Sometimes a movie sometimes stills

What did Rick do on your wedding night

Oh Barbara you know that wasn’t right

We were more than a little crazy

There was always Jesus to save me

And if the good Lord couldn’t do the task

There was always Barabra to ask

Me and Grant smoking cigarettes

Singing his songs without regrets

Stories of times from way back when

With promises of tomorrow and heaven

We were more than a little crazy

There was always Jesus to save me

And if the good Lord couldn’t do the task

There was always Barabra to ask

Life over and I’m only twenty one years old

Too much rebellion too much doing as I was told

There were three Jennifers and none of them cool

We made our own laws but we had no rules

It’s almost seven in the morning day break

Sometimes life gives more than you can take

I remember your happy mother on the phone

So glad to say Barbara has gone home

We were more than a little crazy

There was always Jesus to save me

And if the good Lord couldn’t do the task

There was always Barabra to ask

Assassination in St. Louis

 Assassination in St. Louis

by John Kaniecki

Hello this is the police

We have gunned down

A brother

As if he was a dog

As if there was no humanity

In this creation of God

The killer just happened to be white

And the victim black

The killer just happened to be a police man

And the victim unarmed

How many times have we seen this?

Hello this is the police

We are investigating ourselves

Public relations are important

So Uncle Tom leaders can preach

Trust in the system

The system isn't broken

It is designed to perpetuate slavery and genocide

And it is working just as it is intended

Hello this is the police

Above all trust us

We are the law

We are Amerikkka

If you get angry and riot

Why then we cannot conduct commerce

As usual

So we'll make this investigation protracted

The tedious realities of life will pop up

You will get distracted

Your anger will dissipate

Eventually things will return to normal

Until we kill again

And again

And again

You get the idea

Somewhere a mother is weeping for her baby

The Great $100 Poetry Contest - Update

Hello poets,

I hope everybody is well.

I went through the poems and I narrowed them down to eight finalists. I will not list the eight, at this time. I read the rules and I see that I have given the poets until June 1 to get their 100 hits on their poems. So please share your posts to get to that number. It would be a shame to be the best poem and lose because you lack 100 hits.

When I announce the winners and probably the top three I will give specific reasons why these poems were chosen.

The poem that gets the most hit will receive a special prize. That prize will be in the form of several of my own poetry books.

Also by that time, I think I will begin my exercise of creating a poetry school. I invite everybody to participate, especially our young poets. We will begin with what exactly is poetry and then move on to sonnets.

Thank you for making this contest a great success.

John Kaniecki (the management)
