Every poet that is worthy of the title and that is few, has a burning for social justice. Poetry is beyond entertainment it is a connection to the soul as such the abomination known as war vexes me, both day and night.
Ironically not only are many of my fellows comfortable with this ‘endless’ war but they are enthusiastic about it. I would like to write off these people as ignorant, that they don’t understand the wickedness and the death and destruction that war brings. But, unfortunately, the truth is they know the evil and still glory.
One day the cities of the United States will feel the pain of bombs being dropped indiscriminately on them. The Bible promises that one reaps what one sows. If we abandon the ways of ruthless organized violence perhaps we can avoid such a fate. It is in that spirit I penned these words in the year 2012.
Questioning War
By John Kaniecki
Why do bombs fall
Or weapons built at all
Why do soldiers fight
Neither side being right
Why do politicians lie
And raise a battle cry
Why the lust to kill
And the denial of God’s will
How do we explain
The hatred and pain
Why do religions preach peace
But wars never cease
Why can we not see
That the enemy
Is not man at all
But the call
To war
?
