Immigrants

 Immigrants

Grandma Helen was a woman who knew no fear

She loved her children and adored her beer

Anthony was a man chiseled out of steel

They were players in a game called This Ordeal

Immigrants without a penny to their name

Got holes in their shoes but no shame

Wage slaves dancing in the shuffle

When you’re poor you gotta hustle

Down in Green Point Brooklyn Polish was the lingo

The nights got real cold no one stayed single

True love’s a dream but marriage was close enough

When you’re working twelve hours shifts life becomes tough

Immigrants without a penny to their name

Got holes in their shoes but no shame

Wage slaves dancing in the shuffle

When you’re poor you gotta hustle

Too busy surviving for anyone to live

There are secret sins we cannot forgive

Dark times of history I’m looking at shades

I see Tony in the mirror but he quickly fades

Immigrants without a penny to their name

Got holes in their shoes but no shame

Wage slaves dancing in the shuffle

When you’re poor you gotta hustle

The rules are only for the fools Rockefeller cries

We got a World War to fight as all hope dies

Lessons of the depression stomachs all empty

Someone tell me is this how life was meant to be

We always build on the things that came before us

But I never heard the words of the chorus

I cry in a manic high asking the world Why?

But without a look the world passes on by

Immigrants without a penny to their name

Got holes in their shoes but no shame

Wage slaves dancing in the shuffle

When you’re poor you gotta hustle

We’re The Song

 We’re The Song

Just a Jersey girl full of Jersey charms

I’m so proud to hold you in my arms

Walking the boardwalk sharing our dreams

Down and dirty underneath crying screams

You’re the words I’m the melody

I’m rough and tumble you’re pretty

Together we’re the song The road may be long

But together we’re the song

High hopes for the future living today

Long ago we left the narrow way

Trading golden crosses for the now

I’m sure Jesus understands us somehow

Crucified denied on the spinning wheel

Sounds like fantasy but love is real

You and me baby until we die

The stars in heaven testify to why

You’re the words I’m the melody

I’m rough and tumble you’re pretty

Together we’re the song The road may be long

But together we’re the song

I whisper you my secrets sealed with trust

Whatever we got it’s more than lust

Let life freeze us in an endless kiss

My thoughts turn to you I need more of this

You’re the words I’m the melody

I’m rough and tumble you’re pretty

Together we’re the song The road may be long

But together we’re the song

And so the guitar goes on a solo

We improvise the parts we don’t know

Our one-night stand was many years ago

Now every night so tight we do the show

You’re the words I’m the melody

I’m rough and tumble you’re pretty

Together we’re the song The road may be long

But together we’re the song
