Marlene

Marlene

Hey Marlene heaven is no longer a dream

And the journey ain’t what it seems

The old rugged cross lies at your feet

The struggle now sensationally sweet

Gone are the turmoil, pains, and strife

In the Promised Land

You come to understand

The true meaning of life

Not a worry, not a hurry, not a care

You can personally deliver every prayer

Forever seventeen

In a place where numbers mean

Nothing

Infinite days to give God praise

Infinite hours to enjoy the reward

Reclining, laughing at the table of the Lord

Your cup overflowing

Intimately knowing the bliss of righteousness

Infinite seconds to simply enjoy

A perfect peace none can destroy

Walk around the streets of gold

See wonders too marvelous to behold

Take your beloved Eddie by the hand

Slow dance to the music of the angel band

Life itself is at your command

In heaven there is love at every bend

In heaven there are no strangers

In heaven there are no dangers

In heaven everyone is a friend

In heaven you are never alone

And God is the Light upon the throne

Heaven is an eternal joy which none can destroy

In heaven we are free

Heaven is beyond eternity

A place of grace where all the Faithful will be

So long and take care

We hope to see you there

Dancing In The Rain

 Dancing In The Rain

Woke up to the thunder and lightning flashing

I turned to find you I felt the world crashing

Heavens were bursting a crescendo of water

Felt like you were leading my dreams to the slaughter

And I’ll be dancing in the rain

For every joy there’s a little pain

Kiss me darling you need not explain

Together we’ll be dancing in the rain

Island of Grenada in the wet season

I went for a stroll there wasn’t a reason

Crystal waters enchanting me with a spell blue

Clumsy stumbling along I bumped right into you

And I’ll be dancing in the rain

For every joy there’s a little pain

Kiss me darling you need not explain

Together we’ll be dancing in the rain

Island of Spice we call it paradise

You can’t call it love if it ain’t nice

Somethings my darling have no price

Stay with me forever that’s good advice

We walked not knowing where we were going

We talked not noticing the wind blowing

Heaven opened up making all our words vain

We didn’t fret no regret dancing in the rain

And I’ll be dancing in the rain

For every joy there’s a little pain

Kiss me darling you need not explain

Together we’ll be dancing in the rain

In the dark haze I see your face with a smile

Life’s a success if you find a love worthwhile

I hear our favorite song let’s play it again

In an endless embrace we’re dancing in the rain

And I’ll be dancing in the rain

For every joy there’s a little pain

Kiss me darling you need not explain

Together we’ll be dancing in the rain

You Saw the Ocean (Dedicated to Derek Walcott)

You Saw the Ocean (Dedicated to Derek Walcott)

By John Kaniecki

You saw the ocean

Blue, green, white capped waves in motion

You learned stories of the educated

Sons of the slave masters you hated

I have walked barefoot upon Caribbean hot white sands

I have talked to the people of your islands

I know their names and have heard their story

We shared our Love with all our glory

Also I am intimate with your time

Where you choose free verse over rhyme

An endless war raged in futility

Your own kinsmen struggled to rise from humility

Crucifying every human emotion

You saw the ocean

Where was your cry for justice?

Passionate pleas persuading righteousness

Instead in an alabaster tower

You gazed out the window hour after hour

Life roared crashing on the beach loud as thunder

For you not to hear the oppressed, how I wonder?

A pretty, nice, sentimental notion

You saw the ocean

POET TO THE POOR, REVOLUTIONARY POETRY

"You Saw the Ocean (Dedicated to Derek Walcott)" by John Kaniecki

I remember exploring Grenada with my wife Sylvia. We came upon a book store. There I found a book by Derek Walcott. I was unfamiliar with him as an author but I associated him with the Caribbean. After reading his work I was greatly disappointed.

I am not saying Derek Walcott is not talented; he is to a certain measure. In Mathew 25, there is the parable of the talents. To every man talents are given. The reality is not in how much talent one receives but in what one does with their talents. Here are my poetic words for Mr. Walcott, a man whose absence of words speak louder than what he wrote.

You Saw the Ocean (Dedicated to Derek Walcott)

By John Kaniecki

You saw the ocean
Blue, green, white capped waves in motion
You learned stories of the educated
Sons of the slave masters you hated
I have walked barefoot upon Caribbean hot white sands
I have talked to the people of your islands
I know their names and have heard their story
We shared our Love with all our glory

Also I am intimate with your time
Where you choose free verse over rhyme
An endless war raged in futility
Your own kinsmen struggled to rise from humility
Crucifying every human emotion
You saw the ocean

Where was your cry for justice?
Passionate pleas persuading righteousness
Instead in an alabaster tower
You gazed out the window hour after hour
Life roared crashing on the beach loud as thunder
For you not to hear the oppressed, how I wonder?
A pretty, nice, sentimental notion
You saw the ocean
