Why Is It My Fault
Woke up a December morning the sun was shining on you
I tried to remember the evening but it was hard to do
The sanctity of sleep had conquered your face but a smile
lingered on
I got dressed in a silent rush and in five minutes I was
gone
It’s open to debate but why is it my fault
Caught between love and hate why is it my fault
I ain’t the light of the Earth I ain’t the salt
Can’t we blame God why is it my fault
Santa Claus was ringing his bell for the Salvation Army
He was nipping on the bottle but that fact didn’t alarm me
I tossed in a dollar hoping that it would really go to the
poor
I thought of giving you a call but something in me wasn’t
sure
It’s open to debate but why is it my fault
Caught between love and hate why is it my fault
I ain’t the light of the Earth I ain’t the salt
Can’t we blame God why is it my fault
There are ten thousand horses stampeding inside my beating heart
I remember your words “Every act of love is an act of art”
Well darling it takes two to tangle and that ain’t no maybe
It’s hard to be happy when you’re weeping over the coming baby
It’s open to debate but why is it my fault
Caught between love and hate why is it my fault
I ain’t the light of the Earth I ain’t the salt
Can’t we blame God why is it my fault
I’m just a part time song writer stuck on the blues
One man’s tragedy another’s good news
I wish the world could be a kinder place
Money honey has hijacked the human race
Your knitting stockings shocking pink and it makes me kinda
think
That the night really ain’t black it’s only just a puddle of
spilled ink
Alone is a state of mind there are over eight billion down
here
With a sigh I accept the lie and reach over to draw you near
It’s open to debate but why is it my fault
Caught between love and hate why is it my fault
I ain’t the light of the Earth I ain’t the salt
Can’t we blame God why is it my fault
