The Pink Penguin
By Joyce
Skalinski
Hiking the penguin
rookery
was a joy to behold
Standing stately and
elegant in appearance
Male penguins
protecting young ones
In tiny burrows
Mother penguins gently
feeding their babies
Clear eyes survey the
landscape
Penguins are a unique
bird
can swim and not fly
An absent immune
Their bodies are born
in innocence
Can survive the arctic
cold
Strangely an unusual
appearance on
the seaside shore
A pink colored penguin
lying flaccid on the
beach
Wings still and not
moving
breathing very shallow
Delicate eyes glassy
Morbid and slowly
dying
Brought me deep
feelings of sadness
The pink penguin is
suffering
Mother Earth is
revolting
to our earthly
destruction
We have brought
global pollution
The pink penguin is
now
A yellow canary in the
mine
