A Poem for the Dawn

 A Poem for the Dawn

I write without hope but still words proceed

That in the future some seeker shall read

Long odds with a strong God often succeed

If you fight for right you’ll rise as there’s need

All great revolutionary vision

Came from the light of ordinary men

A better world I can give my children

Where virtue defeats the wages of sin

I see ancient men with tough withered skin

Wisdom begins when one learns to listen

This poem a humble and simple rhyme

Shall be the standard to measure the time

Listen laughers who cackle with scorn

From towers of torment you shall be torn

This is the warning, calm before the storm

As poets protest, WE SHALL NOT CONFORM

Futility nips the heels of my shoes

I resist the shame to proclaim good news

A time of turning a new age shall dawn

And all evil like darkness fled and gone

More To Life

More To Life

Soldiers marching in their finest uniform

In the east the clouds were coming in storm

Where has our innocence went do you know

Strange how these winds of change always blow

Slipping into the evening sky

Giving life one more try

Love is the only reason why

Somewhere out there

There’s more to life than the lie

Women wept so proud of their men of stone

Lovers moaned soon they would be all alone

Mothers cried like they were forever young

How many times has this sad song been sung

Slipping into the evening sky

Giving life one more try

Love is the only reason why

Somewhere out there

There’s more to life than the lie

There is a monster on the prowl can you hear him growl

He’s a funky folk singer singing about murder so foul

Billionaires bankrupting paupers just because they can

Angry anarchists raging screaming stick it to the man

A pair of sweethearts driving into night

A last time to taste heavenly delight

Tomorrow he sails away to endless war

They silently wonder will there be more

Slipping into the evening sky

Giving life one more try

Love is the only reason why

Somewhere out there

There’s more to life than the lie

Courage

 Courage

Born again at the amen in the color of my brown skin

I fight for what is right I war against sin

Twilight twinkling, I have an inkling of righteousness’s light

It ain’t black and white

Cause colors are God’s dazzling delight

Blood red sky azure

Love is courage giving more

Free in my equality

Until somebody tells me

(Have mercy Jesus!)

Get to the back of the bus

Or your career can just wait

Never mind debate

What do I do when I’m pulled over by the police?

I speak for the meek

My Lord turned the other cheek

All the Way to Cavalry

Every inch drenched in agony

I SEE THE REALITY OF THE CROSS

And here I ponder a world vain and insane

Courage dictates in the hate I do more than complain

Second sight may not be a perfect view

But I try to do what God would have me to do

Who will ascend to heaven?

Only a precious few

So, Lord grant me the courage to speak

To preach to teach to reach

Those perishing in the wasteland of woe

Who do not know

Jesus as Christ

And the courage of His perfect sacrifice

May I surrender all

And answer the call

Jordan’s Shore

Jordan’s Shore

Well you know I never had life easy

All the bullies would come tease me

With fast fists I’d hit the ground hard

Got paranoid keeping up my guard

I’m tired Lord don’t think I can walk no more

In the distance I hear the river roar

Oh Lord I pray I’ve reached Jordan’s shore

Oh Lord I pray I’ve reached Jordan’s shore

At twenty I flew into the cuckoo’s nest

I thought life was over I needed rest

I wondered what’s the meaning of this

I knew love was something not to miss

I’m tired Lord don’t think I can walk no more

In the distance I hear the river roar

Oh Lord I pray I’ve reached Jordan’s shore

Oh Lord I pray I’ve reached Jordan’s shore

Well a hero is one who just keeps on

A friend is someone to lean upon

Where were my brothers when the rain fell

Where was my lover when life was hell

I’m tired Lord don’t think I can walk no more

In the distance I hear the river roar

Oh Lord I pray I’ve reached Jordan’s shore

Oh Lord I pray I’ve reached Jordan’s shore

I was dreaming of West Virginia green

It’s by far the nicest place I’ve been

There something of suffering I must say

You get strong walking the lonesome way

When I die I don’t want to be grieved

I want to leave better than I received

Everybody got themselves their own song

It’s so sad when they had the lyrics wrong

I’m tired Lord don’t think I can walk no more

In the distance I hear the river roar

Oh Lord I pray I’ve reached Jordan’s shore

Oh Lord I pray I’ve reached Jordan’s shore

Mulatto Queen

Mulatto Queen

Loveliest thing you've ever seen

Sweet, sweet mulatto queen

A woman caught in between

In a harsh solitary scene

For she is far from white

A disgrace in proper society's sight

Nor is she kin

To those of darker skin

For though she is a slave as well

She is favored, all can tell

Master with his lustful ways

Lavishes her with endless praise

Her teary blue eyes

Always tell

The living hell

When she is made to compromise

Life is a complicated

Never loved, constantly hated

Unsure where to dwell

Always made to sell

If she refuses to stay in line

Master will retaliate

If she makes things fine

It is something she does hate

A mistress to a married man

Without a voice

Without a choice

She does the best she can

Only happy when she's in a dream

Mulatto queen

Waitress

 Waitress

Kriti is pretty on the marble floor

Takeout is tough with an open door

In black funeral black tells me a tale

Jonah ran and found the belly of the whale

She’s the waitress God bless her soul

She’s the waitress Loves rock and roll

Smile all the while her back aches

She’s the waitress got what it takes

Poetry is her dream while on her lunch hour

The menu is new feeling blue power

Excuse me honey does that come with fries

Why don’t you love me I’ll hear some poisoned lies

She’s the waitress God bless her soul

She’s the waitress Loves rock and roll

Smile all the while her back aches

She’s the waitress got what it takes

Two burgers extra mayo diet coke

Truth of the youth can you please guess at the joke

Montclair House Diner on Holy Avenue

From my booth in the back with a view

Dreams sacrificed on the altar of paradise

Six-gun shooters ain’t no Whooters vice

She’s the waitress God bless her soul

She’s the waitress Loves rock and roll

Smile all the while her back aches

She’s the waitress got what it takes

And Kriti will run to the edge of time

Lost with Frost searching for today’s rhyme

A balancing act she juggles the meals

In the shadow of the cross Satan makes no deals

She’s the waitress God bless her soul

She’s the waitress Loves rock and roll

Smile all the while her back aches

She’s the waitress got what it takes

Sylvia’s Garden

 Sylvia’s Garden

Before the sun rises in the end of winter’s death

With chilly hands and frigid breath

Working the soil with rake and hoe

Knowing come summer a blessing to grow

Carefully placing precious seed in pot

Each cherished child never forgot

Watered and watched until they sprout

Green little creatures coming out

Early spring, past the last frost

Praying to God not one to be lost

In the soil measured apart

With cautious hands and loving heart

Early morn to water with hose

Fulfilling expectations the garden grows

Repeating the watering in the eve

Love is doing what you believe

In summer heat a bounteous place

Smiles all over Sylvia’s face

Fresh lettuce and tomato to pick at will

Mother Earth sharing her thrill

Fall comes and we harvest more

Sharing with Trevor and Ron next door

Resting now as the labor is past

How the season has gone so fast!

Looking over the garden leaves in decay

I am confident of another day

Sylvia’s garden will reappear

As long as the Lord gives us another year

Progress

 Progress

Forest

A green dream

Life exploding

Flies a buzz

Mosquitoes too, we hear them hum

Wind passing through the leaves

Birds sing their songs

Woodpeckers steady tapping

Pricklers, we stay away from the sharp thorns

Squirrels leaping in the high branches of the trees

A woodchuck in caution peering cautiously at us

We roll over a rotted log

Centipedes, millipedes scurry

We gaze upon the treasured salamander

He is curiously beautiful to us

The creeks water ripples

We cross stepping on stones

Cautiously we traverse hoping not to get our feet wet

Minnows, goldfish, tadpoles swim

Frogs croak, startled they leap

A turtle darts by

In the distant we gaze upon a deer

A precious creature of extravagant beauty

Small white flowers grow among crab grass

Crashing bulldozers come

And make everything flat

The sign boasts of a new development

Civilization!

What was is no more

We walked the newly created muddy wasteland

Shock, horror, grief

The have a euphemism for it

Progress

We leave there is another sign saying in bright orange letters

“NO TRESSPASSING”

Sings say a lot without noise

Fixing Route 46

Fixing Route 46

The state got plans to fix

The traffic on route forty six

All the engineers got to say

Is make sure we get out pay

Ever make love to a block

It don’t sing it don’t rock

Comes with a real high price

Love is the sacrifice

Now that ain’t right

They’ll be using all their tricks

Fixing Route forty six

Get up at four to go to Philly

The whole situation in silly

Count the cars where the bums awake

Don’t know how much I can take

They say God will provide

And God is on our side

But how can you tell

When we live in hell

Love is the sacrifice

Now that ain’t right

They’ll be using all their tricks

Fixing Route forty six

We’ll do our job and not retreat

If we loose we won’t admit defeat

We can always blame the other guy

It’s all about money and greed is why

Ever make love to a brick

The whole process is sick

Comes with a forked tongue

Deceives the simple and the young

Love is the sacrifice

Now that ain’t right

They’ll be using all their tricks

Fixing Route forty six

The homeless used to live in the trees

With the sprites and gnomes and fairies

Soon they’ll be done on route forty six

Whole thing just makes me sick

Fixing Route forty six

In Memory of Russell Means

In Memory of Russell Means

A champion of the oppressed

In blessing blessed

Darkest demons dwell inside

Doubt, despair

A warrior full of Sioux pride

Daring to care

To be a light

To fight the fight

Mother Earth

Your son returns

As in life

     As in death

           As in birth

A fire that burns

Little Black Box

 Little Black Box

God grand creator of the universe

By whose hand the Earth’s form took

No matter how profound the verse

Could you be contained in a book?

Omnipotent infinite able to do all

To be in a block box ever so small

You’re able to make real the slightest whim

Would you make a home in my poem?

Black and white laws a system of rules

They quote the Bible as perfect fools

Twisting manipulative serving their own end

They mock your Spirit and call you friend

Crystal clear to Love it is to obey

Yet their love is but a word they say

In slavery bound by their sin and desire

They claim the truth but each is a liar

The little black box it sits on my table

Whatever your will it is then able

The little black box I put it on my shelf

I look inside only to find myself

A firefly captured by children in delight

They gaze at the magical mystical light

You’re in the black box I have no doubt

Perhaps one day I will let you out

These words perhaps they depict your soul

To show you love yes that is my goal

In a little black box tiny as a star

In a little black box is where you are

Contrast, there is heaven there is hell

You’ll see the difference it is easy to tell

Love is the word written on my heart

In a little black box never to part

In a little black box kept secure

I wish it was something better something more

A little black box they do not understand

From deep within there comes the command

Listen my dear one and yes you’ll hear

But could you hear and not know fear

A little black box convenient in hand

I wonder if you’ll ever understand

Pushing The Rock Up The Hill

Pushing The Rock Up The Hill

I declare by this aching back and sore feet

That the sweat of my brow is not so sweet

I saw Sisyphus body slam Jesus

And since then, before the final amen there was them and us

Rosa Parks, skin so dark, refused to sit at the back of the bus

Now we get jet airplanes in Dubai

And B-1 bombers a billion of pop that don’t fly

And the boulder on my shoulder is getting bolder

Every second the universe is cursed getting older

Shouldn’t we digress and express the blessing

Where in time is the crime, I stand only guessing

Inch by inch becomes a mile without a smile

Sensational darling love that poetic style

Climb, climb, climb

Rhyme, rhyme, free verse

See this all but a metaphor

But what for?

Birthday wishes for a dear Facebook friend name Bruce

Turn up the candles twist the fire of desire loose

Life is meant for the living, no excuse

We all have our moments of abuse

Dreams come true

I met her and she/he met you

Pushing the rock up the hill

And I suppose I always will

Pushing the rock up the hill

Still

You can always enjoy the view

Engraved in stone God’s will

Thou shall not kill

But heads of rock may shock

And if the hill is steep

That faithful promise they cannot keep

Don’t let that evil rock roll down

United at the zenith we collect our laurel crown

Peace, peace, be still

Pushing the rock up the hill
