Offering of Berries
by Kelsea Annlyn
1
Red drops run fat
And sticky beautiful
Through gappy smile
Over lips
Drip sleepy
Down warrior chins
Laugh at me to see the world like they do
See light like they do
Before the sun goes down
We dance in the wheat
After the sun sets
We dance still

Do you know what that means?
It’s like maybe your body is broken
Like maybe the heart doesn’t work
A brain is done thinking
A lung doesn’t breathe
Neither does the other
Embrace held fast in memory
Lives only there
Dies there
3
Everything else leaves
That’s when the mourning comes
