For Janine
By John Kaniecki
One day I pray my valentine
We’ll open the sky
Blue
Blowing trumpets divine
I’ll begin a high
True
The bark of the trees is
hazel
And so are your eyes
In the dark dismal drizzle
Beauty lurks in disguise
The forest, the jungle
Ruby red desert sands
A flash!
A roar!
An ovation of thunder!
A grassy green serpent sings
Pouring rain brings
A spell to all who are under
The clouds
Only the eagle soars in
heavens
Highest heights
Janine
Licking stamps and leg muscle
cramps
Don’t let them darken your
dream
Look with your hazel eyes
See truth not lies
Love is not in quoting the
Word
Nor is it in the lesson heard
But love is in the act
Remember in the farthest
reaches of the great beyond
All is black?
